TL;DR: No one wanted to support the AIF anymore, so it was dropped.

As a side note, these "other arch folks" you speak of simply "bang" out that installer and seemingly not much else.  The smaller community there creating one thing is a hell of a lot less than out not enormous dev team creating the whole damn distribution.

There are many alternative unofficial installers out there. They require an internet connection, then with a simple "wget http://example.com/installer.sh && bash installer.sh" you have your curses ui. None of them is stable / active / universal enough to be included and maintained as a part of the official iso, though.

I am now reminded why I love this distro but NOT the forum members.. no wonder people are slowly/surely moving to the forks.. I thought my post was quite respectable... i guess not
