I don't mean to be rude, but there's a search function for a reason. This topic has been discussed to death.
TL;DR: No one wanted to support the AIF anymore, so it was dropped.

As a side note, these "other arch folks" you speak of simply "bang" out that installer and seemingly not much else. The smaller community there creating one thing is a hell of a lot less than out not enormous dev team creating the whole damn distribution.

There are many alternative unofficial installers out there. They require an internet connection, then with a simple "wget http://example.com/installer.sh && bash installer.sh" you have your curses ui. None of them is stable / active / universal enough to be included and maintained as a part of the official iso, though.

Perhaps so. But, present company excepted, we have been trolled to death over this, and most of us really could care less about the existence of a GUI installer.
