traffic monitoring

My isp imposes a traffic limit above wich they charge $/Mb in the monthly invoice.
I just want to monitor the traffic volume I have in my laptop's home eth0 just to compare it against the invoice.
What should I use? I need something that generates statistical data in a log file. Perhaps iptraf?

Thanks in advance

ntop is out of this world so I don't know how it would work based on your location

Re: traffic monitoring

I'm running vnStat on my router. It's small and simple.
