file indexing in kde4 does not work anymore?

I am not sure, what the problem is. I am missing some functions i did have a while ago. In dolphin i can not rate and comment files and look up tags anymore. And there were some links like documents and pictures and music, where i could browse those files through all my folders under /home/name/. Do you have any ideas or have experienced similar problems? Can you help me?

do you have nepomuk installed ? Never used kde, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I believe that nepomuk is responsible with indexing of files in kde.

I recently encountered this problem. In my case, the nepomuk database was corrupted, so virtuoso_t was exiting with error. The solution was simple: deleting the nepomuk database solved the problem. If you delete your nepomuk database, indexed information will be lost, so I suggest you renaming the current nepomuk folder,  and let the nepomuk indexer reindex your files.

Steps:

1) Logout from KDE desktop and relogin in terminal (you'll need to enter your username and password in terminal, when asked).

2: Rename nepomuk folder (by default, the kde folder is ".kde4"):

mv .kde4/share/apps/nepomuk nepomuk_backup

3: Login KDE desktop.

if the problem is of a corrupt nepomuk database, then nepomuk indexer will start reindexing immediately after login to KDE.
Depending on what you allowed to be indexed, the indexing time will vary and indexer, as usually, will eat a lot of your CPU till the job is done.

Once it is finished, you can check nepomuk tagging.

If the problem is something else, logout and move nepomuk_backup folder to its original place, and please try to give some more information (error log, etc.).

As for your second problem: Do you use Wine?
IIRC, wine creates those kind of "links" (pictures, music) in your home folder and you need to check arch linux wiki or google for it.

No that did not help.

First some general information:

arch 64bit, testing disabled, using kde (obviously), system is up-to-date as of syncing some minutes ago.

I followed the procedure on the mariadb issue and got amarok working again, in case nepomuk is connected to mysql/mariadb.

Doing random log queries grepping for nepomuk gives:

dmesg | grep nepomuk

No that did not help.   <-- Well, it did do something.

Indexing is running now. I will wait for it to do all the files and report back. I have some hopes that this is the solution to my problem. Thank you for pointing me there.

It works now. I reported the bug to kde.dolphin a while back, but its more related to nepomiuk and perhaps it can be discussed there, since a corrupt database might give them a hint on what happened. But for me it does what it should. Thank you for your help
