Can not start xfce

I have got a Rage 128 video card and after last xf86-video-r128 upgrade I can't start xfce or lxde.
Screen stays black. Anyone has same problem?

Re: Can not start xfce

How are you trying to start them?

Re: Can not start xfce

A screen just locks black and I have to restart a computer.
I'll send my xinitrc on Tuesday because then I will have access to my linux machine.
I have to add that when I downgraded xorg, xorg-common, xf86-video-r128 and xf86-evdev, xf86-input packages then everything is ok.

Re: Can not start xfce

Try this.  Rename your .xinitrc to something else, then try a startx.  This should bring up a very simple (I think) Fluxbox environment.
The next time you have to restart your computer, you might also consider posting your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file.

Re: Can not start xfce

I'm having the same problem after performing a system upgrade a couple of days ago which included X elements.  Same video card and driver, r128, using LXDM and XFCE4.  I don't have any Xorg.0.log records from before the upgrade to compare to, but the last line of the post-upgrade logs shows "Reserved 0 kb for textures at"...   Due to the odd collusion of system settings, I'll try starting another DE.  Maybe the problems with the LXDM or software.

Re: Can not start xfce

Fluxbox didn't work either.  Neither did removing xf86-video-r128 (the default ati and radeon drivers don't recognize the graphics card at all), or running Xorg -configure with and w/out the r128 driver.

Really wishing I didn't clean the cache in the middle of the upgrade; downgrading seems to be the only option now.

Re: Can not start xfce

Only thing that worked was downgrading X.org and related drivers from ARM, using armh and aria2c.

A lesson learned:  don't clean Pacman's pkg cache in the middle of a sysupgrade!  I only did it during the download stage, under the belief that it would leave intact currently installed versions that hadn't been upgraded/replaced during the mid-process sysupgrade.
