still running?  If so, kill it.  Does the static stop?

That command I gave pumps a bunch of random numbers through your audio stream tongue

I've no explanation.  When did that start?  Has it been there since the beginning of the thread, or dis it pop up at some point along the way?

Re: No Sound with Alsa

It wasn't there in the beginning of the thread, but I don't remember exactly when it started. Since pulseaudio and alsa aren't working, is there a replacement sound system I can use?

Re: No Sound with Alsa

Lets start from the top.  Can I get you to reboot, log in as your user, verify that the static is not there.  Then, start pulseaudio, see if it still complains, and see if the static starts.  If it does not, try playing something that is not flash

Re: No Sound with Alsa

Hmm... I rebooted and logged in, and I still have static, but it's fainter that before.  Pulseaudio still gives me

W: [pulseaudio] core-util.c: Failed to open configuration file '/home/alec/.config/pulse//daemon.conf': Permission denied
W: [pulseaudio] daemon-conf.c: Failed to open configuration file: Permission denied

Thanks for your continued help, I appreciate it.

Re: No Sound with Alsa

Well, I changed pulse's permissions, and now I get:

$ pulseaudio --start
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed.

Re: No Sound with Alsa

Try the command "alsactl init".

My sound will randomly go out sometimes, and also sometimes when I plug in my head phones.  This commands gives me sound every time.

Re: No Sound with Alsa

I just tried that. I get

Found hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Intel CougarPoint HDMI" "HDA:10ec0892,18491892,00100302 HDA:80862805,80860101,00100000" "0x1849" "0x1892"

Re: No Sound with Alsa

Yes, I have. The sound works fine with my USB headset, but nothing comes from the speakers that use the audio jack

hi, i see you have an ALC892, if you install pulse audio volume control do you have at the configuration tab "analog stereo" something and then go to the output devices and see if you have headphones, if so, try this configuration.
