hi guys,

i have some trouble since i upgrade to 3.8.x , i don't care at it before but now they become a problem. before posting I try to search about some prob and I found that it could be the i915 with some trouble. otherwise i have strange hd activity.
Becose i'm dumb, can u suggest me how to understand if the prob is the gpu or in the hd?
I haven't kind of error on dmesg. i have simply some stuck and high activity on hd randomly.

my specs:
arch x64
gnome 3.6.2
kernel 3.8.5
cpu i7-2630qm
gpu intel hd 3000
gpu nvidia 540m
6 gb ram

Best regards.
Giovanni.

Re: [SOLVED] random freeze, maybe problem on i915 or hd

?? What is the problem?

We can't help with it unless you tell us what it is.  High HD activity is the only real thing mentioned, but how high?  How did  you determine this?  Did you use iotop, or do you hear the drive spinning?  You also say it is "stuck"; what does this mean?  Is it completely frozen and you have to push the power button to force-shutdown?  Or does it lag for a moment then continue?

the problem that sometimes it freezes randomly.
I can move mouse, but other things aren't usable. after 1 min (more or less) it works.
I thought about high HD for the led. I will check hd activiy with iotop. i cannot do instantly becouse I'm under windows for some works.

Re: [SOLVED] random freeze, maybe problem on i915 or hd

tracker is enable but it doesn't use resource. or at least he isn't making damage.
I get stuck usually when I change windows that's why I thought about i915.
@Tribly I'm running IOTOP and i don't get something strange.

edit: he isn't making damage or i don't see it.

Please edit your first post and change the title to something that actually describes your problem...

Re: [SOLVED] random freeze, maybe problem on i915 or hd

Sorry I can't contribute to finding a solution, but your new title is much better.  Most of the time when someone describes what they *think* the problem is, they can be wrong.  Just describe the actual symptoms and observations.

Re: [SOLVED] random freeze, maybe problem on i915 or hd

I solved with this post for delay in search in gnome https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119689
and with new kernel 3.8.6 I have less delay for video acceleration.
