connect with less tries to USB 3GModem, networkmanager, usb_modeswitch

lsusb
Bus 004 Device 004: ID 12d1:1506 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E398 LTE/UMTS/GSM Modem/Networkcard

Before getting it to connect, I must spend maybe 6-8 minutes running

sudo usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1506 -s 1 -R

waiting for the modem to reappear in nm-applet, and trying to connect. Before finding a solid connection it connects for a few seconds or refuses to connect. Is there nothing I can try to speed up this process?

Re: connect with less tries to USB 3GModem, networkmanager, usb_modeswitch

I had the exact same behavior with my E367

To fix the issue I had to (unfortunately) connect it to a windows pc & use the mobile partner interface to reset the default connection methods (GSM,2G,3G,WCDMA) & the frequency types it uses (800, 900, etc ) once you got through each one & then set it back to always use WCDMA & Quad band connect for 1 last time then plug it back into you linux box.

If you find that you do this very regularly (once every couple of months or so) contact Huawei & tell them what you are experiencing they will then gie you:

the latest firmware for the device
a linux based driver
a non branded recent copy of mobile partner (which provides more stats & has a linux version)

If that does not resolve the issue contact the CONTRACT supplier & give them all the info you gained from Huawei & demand a replacement.

I'm was with MTN South Africa & my problem resulted in me having a free replacement (which resolved my having to change the preferences of the device) & free High gain antenna at home installed but it later turned out that they had not setup the account correctly & only enabled my E367 Dongle for voice use!!!!!!!!! so every cell it registered with rejected the data after 1 month full use.
