[SOLVED]How to add wireless Function (rtl8723ae) in Toshiba Laptop

Hello dear archlinux Forum,

At first, sorry for my english. I have a Toshiba Satellite C850D 119 AMD64 Laptop with a Realtek 8723AE Wireless-Card. I wiped out the previous OS, then i installed many GNU/Linux OSes ;-)

Arch Linux is my favourite and i am trying to add the wireless Functionality. After reading many pages of Information in www.archlinux.org, i am running out of ideas. Please help me.

Here some information:

[rootarch22:02:56] ~ # iwconfig
wlp6s0    IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr=2347 B   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off

lo        no wireless extensions.

enp7s0    no wireless extensions.

[rootarch22:26:56] ~ # uname -a
Linux arch 3.8.6-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Apr 6 07:27:01 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I know that there is support for the rtl8723ae in the kernel, but i don't know how to handle this.

Thank you for your help.

Please specify your question. "wlp6s0" is your wireless interface for the card. Have you tried connecting to a router with it and it does not work?
If you have not, please read a bit here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … atic_setup

Try to connect manually:
# ip link set wlp6s0 up
# wifi-menu wlp6s0

Or really manually smile : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … nual_setup

This is by far the best way to debug wireless issues.

Also, this is an English language forum. If you would prefer to seek help through German, try the forum at archlinux.de .

Re: [SOLVED]How to add wireless Function (rtl8723ae) in Toshiba Laptop

Hello teateawhy,

after this code:

# ip link set wlp6s0 up

nothing happend, but after this code:

# wifi-menu wlp6s0

i could select my Router/Modem wich was configured in:

[rootarch23:58:21] ~ # cat /etc/netctl/wireless-wpa
Description='A simple WPA encrypted wireless connection'
Interface=wlp6s0       #here i have changed wlan0 with wlp6s0
Connection=wireless
Security=wpa
IP=dhcp
ESSID='WLAN-XXXXXXXXX' #this is the SSID wich was written on the back of my Router/Modem
# Prepend hexadecimal keys with \"
# If your key starts with ", write it as '""<key>"'
# See also: the section on special quoting rules in netctl.profile(5)
Key='XXXXXXXXXXXXXX' #this is the number wich was named PSK at the back of my Router too
# Uncomment this if your ssid is hidden
#Hidden=yes

then the state of wlp6s0 changed to UP, see here:

[rootarch20:56:40] ~ # ip link show
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
