[solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

Note that I am using a Mozilla build as the Arch version does not work with my preferred interface language.

Could somebody with a current version of firefox possibly tell me if https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=cy loads correctly or not? Be ready to close the tab/window if it seems to keep loading over and over, though.

Note that this will load Google's home page in Welsh so the fact that all the words look funny is expected and not the problem I'm concerned about.

If it works for others, I'll start troubleshooting but I'd like to know it is just me before I do so.

The English page works fine. It is really quite odd.

the page loading is fine for me. It doesn't reload automatically. Try remove browser cache and cookies. for the worst case scenario change your .mozilla profile and try using a new firefox profile.

Thanks. Turns out just removing the cache did it. I appreciate your checking for me and the advice.

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

OK. Not so solved. If I am logged into my google account, certain google pages load and reload and reload. Fast enough that google thinks I'm a badly behaved bot and bans me until I fill in a captcha.

I can reproduce it with the main search page in other languages (UK English, US English) and with search results pages and with some other google pages but not all.

The problem is not specific to one machine. I can reproduce it on a Fedora box running a Fedora build of firefox (theirs works in Welsh for some reason though Arch's doesn't).

Clearing cache and cookies doesn't solve the problem except that it logs me out of my account so the problem only manifests later.

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

I am using just the plain ol' firefox from the repos (well I don't actually use it, as it is a backup browser), and it works just fine.  Is there something specific I shoudl be trying to do that makes this happen?

@cfr
Do you have firefox sync?
Disable it and try.

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

I wouldn't mind Firefox sync being disabled as it never actually seems to sync anything but unfortunately I tried it and that doesn't work either.

@WonderWoofy,
There is something but I'm still trying to figure out what. I have to be logged into my google account for the problem to occur but I'm not sure what other conditions might be necessary. I can reproduce it even with one tab open (I checked for google tabs through every firefox window I'm using and closed them all then opened a new one). If I'm logged into my account, google search (for example) shows the issue.

It *may* be linked with google docs which I recently started using but I'm far from sure about this.

Have you tried a different browser? Not that you should switch, but it might/might not be FFx specific.

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

Well it doesn't happen in chromium so I guess it is firefox specific. Also google account specific (doesn't happen with my gmail account, does with the other).

I guess resetting firefox will lose me everything so I'd really rather not do that at this point. I often wish I could clean firefox's profile up but it always seems to be all or nothing...

And all this time you didn't mention you are having an extension which handles google site.

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

And all this time I didn't remember I had an extension which handles Google sites. But I am sorry, even so.

Actually, I'm still confused about this because I'm not sure how I would have ended up with that on my Fedora machine. Or any Linux machine, in fact. I did use it in OS X but I don't fully understand how I can have transferred it and I don't remember installing it on any machine running Linux.

Actually, I have some other extensions which I don't remember installing for Linux although I definitely used them in OS X. Most are disabled but some are not...

It was probably that sync thing you didn't think was working.

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

Most likely It got transferred through firefox sync.
When we were asking to delete .mozilla profile we were expecting that it will remove all your personal settings and extensions variable out of the equation. But when you sync it, almost everything is brought back.
Edit:
Too slow this time...

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

You know, you are probably right. So it doesn't sync my bookmarks or passwords but it syncs extensions between different versions of Firefox running on different OSs? I wasn't even using Firefox Firefox on OS X because they'd stopped supporting it on PPC so I used TenFourFox or something, I think. That synced my extensions? That's sort of terrifying...

Re: [solved 2] Weird google behaviour since firefox upgrade

Well if you see the sync settings you will find that there are options for what you can allow firefox to sync.
