[SOLVED] Apps missing from Gnome Shell Menu, Evince, Wine

I have arch linux on another computer with a wine menuj (under gnome 3) and with evince in the application tab of the activities tab. I am not sure if I manually added this or not but my new laptop does not have this and I cannot figure out why. I have tried to install alacarte but am having some issues to possibly see what the problem is. Anyway, any help to get wine, evince to show up would be greatly appreciated. I want to install some window games but I do not want to have to manually add desktop files or use ALT-F2.

Re: [SOLVED] Apps missing from Gnome Shell Menu, Evince, Wine

evince is not supposed to be visible in the application list because it doesn't have any sense, is just a viewer. wine the same, is just a loader for ms-dos-executable

/usr/share/applications/evince.desktop has NoDisplay=true

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Okay thanks for your help wonder. I change nodisplay to false for evince. Also, I installed Google Sketchup and now have a wine menu smile

Re: [SOLVED] Apps missing from Gnome Shell Menu, Evince, Wine

After installing GIMP, it was chosen to be the default application for opening PDFs. I couldn't choose Evince to be the default application, because it wasn't visible in the list of apps (in the properties of any pdf file), well, because NoDisplay was true. Changing it to false made it possible to actually choose Evince as an app again. So there are several reasons for disabling this option wink

There are other reasons why you would like to have evince visible in the application list, for instance, if you just want to open a recent document without having to open a file manager and navigate all the way till you reach it.
