Certain server does not respond to ping or query from apache

Hi everyone!
I'm struggling here with a problem that has been present for the past few days or so. I'm trying to access a server (namely mycite.omikk.bme.hu), through a PHP command, but somehow it always fails to connect. In the http error log I find this:

Name or service not known in /home/peter/public_html/SnD.php on line 4

If I try to ping said server, I do not receive any packets. Meanwhile, I can happily SSH into the server and also access its contents through chrome. I've already spoken to its admin, and there have been no changes to the server recently. I'm quite sure there's a problem somewhere in my machine, maybe a broken update..
I don't know what else is relevant, so if there's any other info I should post, please tell me.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: meanwhile, I tested if the sever would respong to ping from another device, and it does. So it's more and more likely that the issue is on my side.

Re: Certain server does not respond to ping or query from apache

From North America, I cannot ping it, but I can see the website.  One thing I note is that it redirects to mycite.omikk.bme.hu/www.  Are you handling the redirect correctly?

Re: Certain server does not respond to ping or query from apache

First off, thanks for the reply! Well, maybe it is a server-side issue, after all. I'm sure it's not about the redirect, as I'm trying to query a specific file, and I'm sure there's no redirection there. The strange thing is, that this problem only appeared a few days ago, and I thought it may be a broken update. Guess I've got to continue bugging the admin. (Pinging only worked from the same network the server is on, so that must be a firewall). Or maybe you have some other ideas?
