Hi.
After an update I did on thursday (haven't used my computer since),I cannot connect to the internet anymore.
I have a dsl connection and use no server. I have been using programs like 'adsl-start' and 'adsl-stop' to control my connection.
It seems that these programs have disappeared, I cannot find them anymore anywhere on my system (which I find odd, because I would not think that an update removes programs, does it?).
Meanwhile I have tried to start pppoe, but also no result:
[root@cerebellum ~]# which adsl-start
which: no adsl-start in (/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/bin:/opt/gnome/bin:/opt/java/jre/bin:/opt/kde/bin:/opt/mozilla/bin:/opt/qt/bin:/opt/xfce4/bin)
[root@cerebellum ~]# /etc/rc.d/adsl start
:: Starting ADSL Connection [FAIL]
[root@cerebellum ~]# pppoe-setup
Welcome to the Roaring Penguin PPPoE client setup. First, I will run
some checks on your system to make sure the PPPoE client is installed
properly...
Oops, I can't execute the program '/sbin/pppd'. You
must install the PPP software suite, version 2.3.10 or later.
[root@cerebellum ~]#
Do I need to download PPP and install it manually?
And what about the programs I have used so far?

The rp-pppoe package contains the programs:
/usr/sbin/pppoe-start
and
/usr/sbin/pppoe-stop.
Maybe the apps changed name :? Also rp-pppoe depends on ppp packages so you'll probably need to install ppp. I don't know why it wasn't installed with rp-pppoe.

But isn't it still strange, that also '/etc/rc.d/adsl start' does not work anymore? And also that I seem to have pppoe installed but not ppp (which pppoe relies on)?
I am totally lost.
But I shall try to install ppp manually (without internet connection, wah!) and see if I can get this fixed.

You could also try reinstalling rp-pppoe. ppp should be on the install CD.

Me again.
Had a reinstall this weekend. After the installation I chose 'adsl-setup' to configure my dsl connection and 'adsl-start' to start the connection.
No 'pppoe-setup' have been available at that time (I also had the 0.7.1 install cd).
BUT:
After an 'pacman -Syu' and a reboot, the 'adsl-whatnot' scripts are gone, I find 'pppoe-something' and neither '/etc/rc.d/adsl start' nor 'pppoe-start' will establish a connection.
'pppoe-setup' is complaining, that PPP is missing...
What is going on here?
Obviously the update does delete some things...
Does anyone have an idea?
Cheers

Hi again.
Over here I got the information, that the 'pppoe-setup' script is looking for pppd in the wrong directory.
It is looking for /sbin/pppd where it should be /usr/sbin/pppd.
I have changed the script, unfortunately it still won't work.
Does anyone have some more ideas?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
Michael
