Re: x.org refuses to start

Just to be clear: you have installed:

bumblebee
intel-dri
xf86-video-intel
xf86-video-nouveau
nouveau-dri
mesa

You have added yourself to the appropriate group and rebooted without a custom X configuration file. Can you post the log for X.org when you do that? The logs you have posted earlier are for cases where you don't have the intel driver installed or you do have a X conf file, right?

Yes.

You mean the Bumblebee group? Yes, I added myself and root to that.

Yes.

Correct. I must not have ran that before. It started the X server! However, upon reviewing the log file, it appears to have started using the Intel driver solely, rather than the nvidia (nouveau) one that I wanted. The log is here:

Just to make sure we're on the same page, I want Bumblebee to run with nouveau by default, and switch to the Intel card if it's low on power (or not plugged in). This is possible, correct?

EDIT: Sorry to reply late. I was out of the house for a few hours and forgot to start my SSH server on my computer.

I have the same problem, just installed Arch for the first time, right now. I've generated a Xorg config file, just as abrambleninja (OP), same command and everything, then made the

BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

I put that line just under the Driver line, which already said "nvidia" (My GPU/screencard (whatever) is nvidia, I followed the Arch Linux Beginner Guide and installed Arch successfully, first error that I can't handle myself is now).

When I try to start Xorg with "startx", I get the same error, refering to the Xorg.0.log file. I check that file, and it still says

(...)Fatal server error:
(....) no screens found(EE) (.....)

Above that it says:

Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Does anyone know, how I give my screen a usable configuration? It's an Alienware m11" (laptop).

Also, should I post the .log file and .conf file? I'm on another laptop right now, googling my way through everything, I tried using the elinks in another tty, but I didn't like that at all. Is there some easier way to share the log? Should I transfer the .log and .conf etc. to an USB pen, then open here? Just wondering how you do it tongue

You probably have optimus, which makes this a totally different problem than the one OP had. Check out the bumblebee wiki page.

Thanks, I'm installing and trying to break down the problems I've already encountered, lol. Længe leve Helle Thorning!

! However, upon reviewing the log file, it appears to have started using the Intel driver solely, rather than the nvidia (nouveau) one that I wanted.

This is expected. It at least shows it works. I think it is easier to get the default working first and then configure than to try to get everything in final state in one go. At least, when that isn't working it is better to break the installation/configuration into more manageable stages so you can figure out where the problem is. Maybe that's just me, though.

I have no idea. I know only what is on the wiki. I have never used bumblebee. I have used nouveau and intel but that's about it and I've not used them together. But I think it is possible, yes, just from the wiki.

Have you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bu … g_bbswitch? That seems to offer a way to do what you want because you could, if I've understood correctly, have the default set to use the card rather than to not use it? Would that do it?
