[SOLVED] Netctl@mobile_ppp fails 'dependency job'

I've been using sakis3g to run a Huawei mobile broadband usb device. But doing a new install on another computer I thought I should use netctl.
I've downloaded ppp, wvdial, and usb_modeswitch unsure if I  need these and I set up /etc/netctl/mobile_ppp.
The modem doesn't appear to switch and stays as a mass storage but I don't even get that far.
When I start mobile_ppp it times out with error 'A dependency job for netctl@mobile_ppp.service failed'.
Journalctl gives me no further information.

How do I figure out what this dependency job is?

Edit:: My mistake, sorry for the noise. I had actually forgotten to install usb_modeswitch. Netctl failed to find an active usb modem and came back with the slightly confusing error message of 'fails dependency job'
