Does anyone know if its possible to label a crypto_luks partition? Id like to reference my cryptdevice in syslinux by label
cryptdevice=/dev/sda2:cryptroot
from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm … bootloader

I use the label from /dev/disk/by-partlabel/ which I probably assigned in gdisk to the partition. But I'm not sure if it has to be the same name.

Cool thanks guys, I knew I'd seen a partition labeled before, probably when I was fiddling with GPT then. Too bad I havnt found a way to boot Windows 7 off a GPT disk.

IIRC windows needs UEFI in order to boot off GPT for some reason.

I remember reading somewhere that there is in fact a way to get windows to boot in bios mode from a gpt disk and vice versa. But it is really not a recommended way of going about things, and possibly not as reliable as one might hope (on an already less than reliable OS, that is no bueno).

His looks like an option for me

I don't have an EFI system.

Is it really wise to do that just to use a partition label? Given the problems with hybrid, I would personally want rather stronger reasons before even considering that option.
