Quick question: As the later standard kernels don't support devfs any longer, is it still necessary to include the line
to your bootloader's config file to enable udev? Currently, my grub config looks like this:
title Arch Linux (188.8.131.52) root (hd1,5) kernel (hd1,0)/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hdb6 ro vga=791 initrd (hd1,0)/initrd26.img devfs=nomount
It doesn't seem to be necessary if you're using a kernel that doesn't support devfs.
it definitely isn't necessary
(your answer sounds not 100% sure, Jones, that's why i confirmed it)
It's necessary if you're using the 2.4 or 2.6.10 kernels, which still support devfs. Otherwise, no.
