This seems to be a re-occurring issue here. Perhaps the "pacman -Syyu" fix should be added to the infinality wiki entry ?

It is a wiki... so you could always add this. But in this case, I strongly agree about this addition, so I went ahead and added a note on the bottom of the infinality-bundle section.

@flipperT, please fix it up as you see fit.

That's why I thought redDEADresolve already tried it. Maybe you could rephrase it or change

Before installation/upgrade, don't forget to run
pacman -Syu

to say 'pacman -Syyu' instead?

I'm having similar issues (intermittently) with the servers.

Deleting the infinality databases in /var/lib/pacman/sync/ didn't really help and neither did pacman -Syy

Sometimes infinality-bundle.db would download, but not infinality-bundle-multilib.db and vice versa.

Most of the time (these last few days) I've been getting:

error: failed retrieving file 'infinality-bundle.db' from ibn.net63.net : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
error: failed to update infinality-bundle (download library error)
error: failed retrieving file 'infinality-bundle-multilib.db' from ibn.net63.net : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds

It still works for me most of the time. But sometimes I too get the "Operation too slow" error. Interestingly, it will time out one moment, and then start magically working well just a couple seconds later.

It does seem very random. Earlier, I got straight timeout messages (not the "too slow" ones). Now it just works without issue.

FWIW, I can see this happen as well. I suppose such hiccups occur when the server is overloaded and premium accounts are granted higher priority over free ones to access system resources. I monitor the performance on a daily basis and I can always access the control panel and the FTP, so the repository is really never out of service. Since the packages aren't updated frequently, no one should worry about being unable to download them when necessary. Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience…

It really isn't a problem for me. It always resolves and it only slows pacman's updating by a couple of seconds. I suspect people may just worry they are doing something wrong.

Love this, tried it when this thread first started and gotta admit, didn't like it. Just tried again and it's the best font rendering I've seen on any linux.

I suppose you mean GitHub's Octicons: click (Firefox 23.0.1)? I don't think that the issue is in any way produced by Infinality patches; more likely--this is my assumption--it's the way freetype2 deals with some webfonts. I experienced this once in the past, but one day all of a sudden everything started working correctly. I've never managed to reproduce it since, though.

Shocking ignorance of LaTeX (and of free fonts) - or deliberate misinformation. The author claims to have never seen a document produced with LaTeX which got quotation marks right?!! The "proprietary" bias is quite unfortunate indeed… I think that leaving the author a note wouldn't be a bad idea: maybe this would encourage him to revise the paragraphs in question and rewrite them accordingly.

Your mentioning other formats than PDF reminded me of a little script I used some time ago. It should let you export the document to two more formats (ps, djvu).

I fear I would simply be dismissed as another of those people who write from time to time claiming LaTeX does typography well.

I actually was thinking more of the fact that part of the point of TeX is that processing the same source on two different systems will produce the same result. The idea that you have to edit and annotate pdf files directly in order to see the same layout is just mad - not just because collaboratively writing in this way would be incredibly frustrating but also because you will not see the same thing if, for example, you use different pdf editors/viewers.

EDIT: V. interesting script, though. Does it still work? I've never heard of printkit?

Interesting... I didn't actually read more than the first few sentences, but just thought that a write up of fonts would be interesting to those who really care deeply about fonts. For me, I enjoy having these nice fonts, but do not really desire to dig into that world in order to achieve it. Hence, I put full trust in font configuration in the hands of bohoomil (who's font configurations I had used before this, and also gotten help from in getting said configurations right).
