Re: [SOLVED] Can't start x on laptop with 3.10 kernel and nvidia driver

I did not drop by the forums yesterday. It would seem from what I read that everything is fixed for those who suffered from the same issue that I had. I will however wait until 3.11 hits the core repository before I try it.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't start x on laptop with 3.10 kernel and nvidia driver

I'm still on kernel 3.9.9, but I intend to upgrade to 3.11 as soon as it hits the core repo as I want to give it a try myself. However, from what I have been reading in the other topic that was started by TBoshoven, it would seem that we need to wait for nvidia to hopefully fix this in their drivers soon.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't start x on laptop with 3.10 kernel and nvidia driver

Today I updated to kernel 3.11.1 as it came into the core repo. I have not experienced any issues yet. I was able to start x without problems. However, I don't intend to mark this topic as solved just yet. The comments made by the everyone testing 3.11 while it was in testing make it seem like my issue can still resurface. I will give it a few days before I decide to mark this topic as solved or if I still need to wait for the isse to be properly resolved.

Edit: I have had several reboots and X never failed to start. I do not see any signs of the problems I had with all 3.10 kernels, so I shall mark the issue as solved. Despite not knowing exactly what was the cause of the problem, it appears to be gone with the 3.11.1 kernel.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't start x on laptop with 3.10 kernel and nvidia driver

I did a pacman -Syu but still get the same error ( (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA GPU at PCI:1:0:0. ) when starting xorg using linux 3.11.2-1 and nvidia-325.15-7 on a lenovo y510 with a GeForce GT 750M.

Just me?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't start x on laptop with 3.10 kernel and nvidia driver

a7ch, do your laptop have optimus? All optimus laptops suffered slightly different symptoms than the laptops that did not have optimus. My issue was resolved with the 3.11.1 kernel, and I have not seen sign of it since. I would suggest you look at TBoshoven's topic as most seem to be posting there, even though his problem is also solved for him.

You should also make sure to watch the nvidia forums, and possibly post to the ongoing thread there if you have not done so already. Hopefullly nvidia will have this fixed by the next driver release as it seems most laptops with optimus technology are still suffering from this problem.

Edit: Page 5 of his topic is where you may find useful information, but I would still suggest reading through to make sure you are have the exact same problem as any others have explained.
