Strange Error When Running Arch Usb/CD

I may not be a linux guru at this point, but I definitely am competent most of the time with linux.  Though I had recently gotten a new laptop and received some kind of strange error whenever a usb or cd boots into linux:

[ 38.120733] hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 7
[ 40.425804] usb 1-7: unable to read config index 0 descriptor/start: -71
[ 40.425885] usb 1-7: can't read configurations, error -71

This error has never appeared on any of my other laptops or desktops, and that just repeats indefinitely until I hard shutdown.  Now, it doesn't interfere with operations so I could type in a command and execute it and it would work just fine, debian had the same problem but was still able to install and boot each time.  The only usb device I have plugged in is the liveusb and when I run it from a cd, nothing is plugged in.  It's more so an annoyance to me since I have not noticed any other problems with it.  I would like to be able to fix this though, becuase it would be really hard for me to install arch on my laptop with that going on, even though I have already successfully done it on most of my other computers.

And instead of writing out all the specs, this is the laptop I'm using:

Thank you in advance for any help I may receive!

If you want to just make it go away, you can stop it from being logged to the console with dmesg.  I think that it is dmesg -D that will stop it. Otherwise, you can append your desired loglevel=n to the kernel command line before booting.

Thank you!  That worked to get that annoying mess off the screen.

Hopefully this will stop when you actually get the system installed and booted.

Most of the time it did not, it would show up during the boot process in debian and others similar.  But once X starts, it's fine.  It doesn't even show up in the terminals then.

Re: Strange Error When Running Arch Usb/CD

You should still check dmesg and/or the journal to see if this is still occurring after you install though.  I get the unable to enumerate USB error sometimes, but it is pretty rare.  The others about the config I have never seen.  I wonder if this has something to do with the particular USB you have decided to make into a live media.

I thought that too (about the usb), but it sometimes even happens with liveCDs, sometimes even after I installed.  It's strange, but I will check to make sure it isn't still spitting those out when I get it installed.

May or may not be helpful:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1121923 [note that this concerns an installed system and is from before Arch's switch to systemd]

Do you have settings in BIOS affecting support for USB? E.g. sometimes there are options to enable/disable support for different ways of accessing stuff or different versions of stuff.
