Anyone who is having this problem - the indexer is crashing on a particular file. Please post the file currently being indexed to the bug report. Thanks.

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

This thread strikes me as wrongly marked as Solved.  It would seem that the disabling of nepomuk is not at all a solution, but rather just a workaround.  So if the OP is still reading this thread, maybe you might want to change the [Solved] to something like [Workaround].

You might also want to put a note in the first post that the workaruond is disabling nepomuk, but that there has really not been a solution in the thread to enable the use of nepomuk while not having the journal spike in CPU usage...

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

please tell me how to DISABLE nepomuk and akonadi....

when i list the processes i still see this process running
theresa   3397  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_nepomuk_feeder --identifier akonadi_nepomuk_feeder

I suppose I cannot disable the akonadi service because for some reason kmail needs it.

here are the following akonadi processes that are currently running:

theresa   3341     1  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_control
theresa   3343  3341 27 09:53 ?        00:00:33 akonadiserver

theresa   3389  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_agent_launcher akonadi_akonotes_resource akonadi_akonotes_resource_0

theresa   3392  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_agent_launcher akonadi_ical_resource akonadi_ical_resource_0
theresa   3393  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_imap_resource --identifier akonadi_imap_resource_0

theresa   3395  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_maildispatcher_agent --identifier akonadi_maildispatcher_agent
theresa   3396  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_mailfilter_agent --identifier akonadi_mailfilter_agent
theresa   3397  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_nepomuk_feeder --identifier akonadi_nepomuk_feeder
theresa   3398  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_newmailnotifier_agent --identifier akonadi_newmailnotifier_agent
theresa   3399  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_pop3_resource --identifier akonadi_pop3_resource_2
theresa   3400  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_pop3_resource --identifier akonadi_pop3_resource_3
theresa   3401  3341  0 09:53 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/akonadi_sendlater_agent --identifier akonadi_sendlater_agent

Also for the record, I deleted the .kde/share/apps/nepomuk folder...without any success. Kmail is still just as slow as before.
I suppose that's because nepomuk is still running?!?!

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

Also when starting kmail from the konsole I get this message, when trying to click on a mail...

kmail2(3982) MessageList::Core::ModelPrivate::findMessageParent: Circular reference loop detected in the message tree

this seems rather unusal, right?!

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

@micsnare, I know pretty much nothing about nepomuk (or KDE for that matter), but you need to use code tags for things like the output your have posted above.  If you don't know how to do this, you can follow the 'BBCode' link below and it will show you how to do code tags and much much more.

Also, instead of posting and then posting again, you should use the 'Edit' button in the original post.  Though I think that your second post has pretty much nothing to do with this thread.  So maybe a better place would be a new thread for the kmail problem.

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

I run across this problem too. I disabled nepomuk for a while, then decided to activate it back. Turns out the issue has been fixed somehow. Maybe this is the cause (from http://community.kde.org/KDE_SC/4.11_Release_Notes ):

Nepomuk

Nepomuk’s optimized storage format and rewritten e-mail indexer require reindexing some of the hard drive’s content. Consequently the reindexing run will consume an unusual amount of computing performance for a certain period – depending on the amount of content that needs to be reindexed. An automatic conversion of the Nepomuk database will run on the first login.

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

@ffcc What release note meant was that when you run Nepomuk for first time your system usage will get spiked. According to the developer[1] in the bug report, the issue has been fixed but it couldn't make it to 4.11.1 but it will be shipped in next monthly release cycle which will be 4.11.2 which will be released on Oct 1st[2].

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

I realized a long while back that Nepomuk and akonadi are far more trouble than they are worth to me
I had much bad luck with them in this system and there are worthy alternatives.
You can shut of nepoMUK with a simple check and akonadi in ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc  set StartServer=false
logout/in and smell the roses.... What a relief!

@rufus I will probably have to find a replacement of date/calendar widget as they require and will enable akonadi

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

one of the beauties of KDE is that you can duplicate easily with a click a stable working 'Activity' and rely on it for
a configuration backup. and create others if you will. there certainly are positive aspects to KDE. I would venture
to say its the best lOOkin desktop on the fly. And having to look at something for such an extended period this
becomes a big issue for me...So theres plenty to be happy about with KDE, plenty. it needs work but its in development......

Re: [Solved] systemd-journald 100% usage after upgrade to KDE 4.11

I'm not sure what's really going on now. I've re-enabled the indexer for both email an files, and it says that it's running, nepomuk services are running as well. However when I try to search for something that I know for sure exists in KRunner, nothing comes up. I've had a look at all the links that've been posted, but nothing sticks out, unless I'm overlooking something obvious.
