I recently upgraded my router to an Asus RT-N56U, which has simultaneous 2.4 and 5 GHz APs. I've got Arch installed on a Lenovo T400 laptop, which uses this wifi setup:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection
I'm connecting to the 5 GHz AP, and was expecting a 300 mb/s connection. But I'm not - I'm consistently getting 150 mb/s. If I connect to the 2.4 GHz AP, I'm getting 72.2 mb/s.
I know the laptop wifi is capable of higher connect speed - I have Windows 7 installed on a spare hard drive, and it consistently gets 270 - 290 mb/s connects. Makes a change - on my last laptop, Arch consistently got 150 mb/s to my old Linksys router, but Windows Vista could only manage 72.2.
So, what am I doing wrong? While the 150 mb/s connects gets acceptable performance, I would like to get better if I could. I know there was a problem with the 3.8.x kernels, but I thought that had been solved by the 3.9.x and later kernels.
Searching hasn't helped, so I'm hoping someone may have some ideas for improving things.
Paul.
