Well, I'm getting tired of CUPS, the only problem is, there is no alternative (Windows never was one... even if it prints...)
I have a print server. A HP Laserjet 1320 is installed on it. Latest cups, system up to date. Printng works - but really slow since the latest cups update. If I hit "top" I can see that gs is turning the watermill at 90-100%, nothing happens for half a minute (that is the test page, for gods sake...), then it prints. Well, OK, it is slow, I can go with it.
But since that update I simply can't use it from the clients. I've deleted it, added it again as an ipp-printer (using the right path, yes) - and I'm getting the "filter failed" message evey time I try to print to it.
Nothing in my logs.
What can be wrong?

you need to locate where the error is. try an older cups PKGBUILD or some older poppler/cups-filter/ghostscript.... pkg.

have you figured this out? I have the same printer and same problem. very slow printing. Googled around and find that latest cups actually first convert the printing object to pdf then sent to the print. not sure if this is related.

Still no solution.
I'm using my box as a cups client now ( with the server ip in /etc/cups/client.conf) and it works.
By the way, I would really ask the cups devs, what would they do if they had multiple print servers on the same network...
