Third topic name Alsa FFT Based equalizer through HDMI has no sound output see last post
Hi,
I use pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa.
I have configured pulseaudio to use equalizer by adding module loading to the bottom of config:
$ tail /etc/pulse/default.pa -n 1
load-module module-equalizer-sink
The equalizer has no effect with "Built-in Analog Stereo", so I changed in pavucontrol to "FFT Based equalizer on %soundcardname%"
After that the sound became muted. The config shows the volumes are at 100%.
The preamp in qpaeq also shows there must be a good volume level
Tried reboot after confguring so the pulse is restarted by KDE.
What am I missing?
Thanks.
Edit:
AI saw that there are three options in pavucontrol
"%cardname% (HDMI)"
"Built-in Analog Stereo"
"FFT Based equalizer on %cardname% (HDMI)"
The only one which gives sound is the "Built-in Analog Stereo".
Switching to TTY and back does not solve the problem (the monitor wasn't turned off since boot anyway)
Reading This thread I didn't understand what is the solution and whether it solves my problem.

Now it's even worse. When I booted today no sound in Built-in Analog Stereo as well. Tried removing the equalizer module and restarting pulseaudio, but it didn't help.
ALSA devices are not in use:

/dev/snd/controlC1: doctor 1197 F.... pulseaudio
$ fuser -v /dev/dsp
Specified filename /dev/dsp does not exist.

.pulse config is deleted
$ stat ~/.pulse
stat: cannot stat ‘/home/doctor//.pulse’: No such file or directory
And ALSA is not muted
////////////////////////////////////////////////
Edit:
Then I reinstalled pulseaudio and left the configs untouched and the sound is there again.
Now HDMI %cardname% output is not indicated as unplugged, but still gives no sound.

It seems the problem was in the place of config where the module should be loaded.
When I added
load-module module-equalizer-sink
Just after
# static hardware detection module
Now the FFT based equalizer stream is not streamed through HDMI and called
"FFT based equalizer on Built-in Audio Analog Stereo"
And there goes my sound.
I thought that HDMI was the only way it works, but it seems that putting FFT based equalizer by pulse was an error in config.
HDMI is not configured on my machine (and I don't need to use it anyway).

I was having the same issue and this solution worked perfectly for me.

Hi, your topic name is wrong... you're using pulseaudio to do the equalizing.
It appears you have multiple sinks (e.g. cards) and this is why the module defaults are not doing what you'd like... unfortunately you only get to pick one sink that the equalizer is attached to.
The parameter you're looking for to force it to be hdmi is to first find the name of that sink using pacmd list-sinks. You would then pass this as such (for example):
load-module module-equalizer-sink sink_name=equalized sink_master=alsa_output.pci-0000_01_00.1.hdmi-stereo
Also the equalizer needs to be loaded after the dbus module is loaded.
