Inspired by a thread in the applications section I decided to experiment with embedding a konsole session in the desktop background. It turned out to be ridiculously easy. The desktop-console is activated with a single key shortcut (like F12 for yakuake).

Why does KDE load up so fast?! On my machine (see sig) it definitely takes longer to load, yes it's old but it's not weak.
Hardware: 2016 Dell XPS15 - matte FullHD - i5-6300HQ - 32GB DDR4 - Nvidia GTX960M - Samsung 840EVO 250GB SSD - 56Wh
Software: Plasma 5 - rEFInd - linux-ck - preload - prelink - verynice - psd - bumblebee

SSD is the thing I think, do you have one?
[edited]
Now that i see your signature... I don't know, my KDE is stock, my cpu is way more powerful i think though.

Most probably SSD. Autologin helps too.
Was it a cold boot or just a reboot?
My startup happens to be that fast only by rebooting.
I've most of the kde services disabled, as so it's nepomuk. Akonadi is disabled too (requires to edit akonadiserverrc), i don't use plasma either, but BE::Shell, which cuts 3-4 seconds in the best case scenario.
No ksplash, and autologin. KDE loads in an empty session. Root is on SSD.
My puter: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, RAM: 8GB DDR3, SSD: SanDisk SSD U100 32GB, HDD: TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB, GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 650
Though, i'm far from such startup time

I shut the computer down, started recording the video and pressed power button but I think it always takes about that time. I have all KDE services active. OdinEidolon has also DDR2, that probably is another reason. I use preload but I'm not sure if that helps on booting.

I am using an intel i 5 cpu + the evo 840 from samsung. without preload and with NetworkManager enabled, my boot looks like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS-2C5u8vd8. Network usually takes the most time (269ms on my system).
I have root + home on the ssd, but musik/videos on a 2nd hdd. But the biggest boost gives the ssd for sure.
