Hello,
I am using emacs together with gnus to check my mail from different computers. This works perfectly for my private pc and laptop but unfortunately I have to connect to the outside through a proxy server at work. I have already set the corresponding environment variables and firefox, wget etc. work like a charm. Still, I am not able to configure gnus in a right way. I have checked the gnus info manual. There it says something about using rlogin or ssh to connect, but I don't have an account and no rights to access the server.
Isn't there a possibility to connect to the mail server (gmail in this case) through a proxy?
How can I check if my company has blocked the particular ports that I need?
Any help is highly appreciated! I can provide any log files that you ask me for.
Thanks,
Dominik

It should be possible. I can use Gnus from behind my university's proxy without any special configuration. My guess is that it's either a port issue or a proxy authentication issue (my proxy doesn't require authentication). Not much help, I know, but at least it's an extra data point.
