[solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

For some reasons NetworkManager (used in a Cinnamon session) is not storing my password of my Eduroam account.

This is how the interface looks like: http://i.imgur.com/dL3QwOk.png

Whenever I am typing in my Password and click on Save, the next time I open the interface again, I have to retype in the password.

I set up NetworkManager by installing the following packages and activating the NetworkManager.service file.

[orschiro@thinkpad ~]$ pacman -Q | grep network
glib-networking 2.38.1-1
network-manager-applet 0.9.8.4-2
networkmanager 0.9.8.8-1
networkmanager-dispatcher-crashplan-systemd 1.0-2
networkmanager-dispatcher-dropbox-systemd 1.0-1
networkmanager-dispatcher-ntpd 1.0-6
networkmanager-openvpn 0.9.8.4-1
networkmanager-pptp 0.9.8.4-1

Could anyone give me a hint what may be causing this issue?

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

Do you have any other network managing software running (netctl, wicd, etc)?
Ran into the same trouble after installing from archboot (enabled netctl after install)

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

No other network managing software. At least not that I am aware of.

More surprisingly all other secured networks store my password but simply not the Eduroam one.

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

Hi there! (Guess who)

Ok, so I have Cinnamon 2.0 setup with networkmanager and gnome-keyring installed and I don't have problems with storing Eduroam passwords.

Hi clfarron4,

So let me ask. How do you start cinnamon and how do you initialise gnome-keyring?

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

I actually use gdm-old from the AUR as a Display Manager.

As for gnome-keyring, I think I just installed it and viola, it worked.

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

I remember reading a report about a similar issue with NM that went away after deleting the profile completely ("forget network" in GUI) and just re-creating it.

@Strike0

I tried this already. It doesn't change anything. These are the logs:

Could it be an issue because I am launching cinnamon through cinnamon-session in xinitrc instead of a display manager?

Furthermore, I only have installed gnome-keyring but do not start it explicitly. However, shouldn't it also work without gnome-keyring or is it a required dependency for NetworkManager?

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

gnome-keyring is not a dependency of NM. I have no experience with cinnamon, maybe someone else can give you input there.

Have a look at the first post: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702608

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

I just came across this exact problem myself, and I thought I'd share this for others encountering this issue.

Installing gnome-keyring did solve the issue. It isn't an explicit dependency for NM, however it is needed in some cases.

Re: [solved] NetworkManager does not store Eduroam password

Sorry for posting in solved thread, just wanted to share a workaround I found to connect to eduroam (and other WPA-PEAP networks) with NetworkManager without gnome-keyring:
in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/eduroam changing "password-flags=1" to "password=[user password]" seems to do the trick
