I am having trouble using iptables on my computer.
When I try to start the iptables service, it fails with the error
iptables-restore v1.4.19.1: iptables-restore: unable to initialize table 'filter'So it seems that iptable_filter isn't being loaded and modprobe returns this message:
modprobe iptable_filter
modprobe: ERROR could not insert 'iptable_filter': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)So it seems like a kernel problem? I have restarted multiple times since the last Linux update.

For what it’s worth you don’t need to start the iptables service to use iptables. I just call iptables commands from a script and the needed modules are loaded automatically.
Also the obvious: what does dmesg say?

It is a x86_64, and the current kernel. Generic Arch Linux, fully updated, and I have restarted the machine multiple times. It seems to me to be very similar to the problem that people have when updating the kernel and then not restarting, but again, I have restarted multiple times.

I can't flush my rules. Any use of the iptables command has the same response:
# iptables -F
iptables v1.4.19.1: can't initialize iptables table 'filter' : Table does not exist (do you need to isnmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.Edit: I tried downgrading iptables, and the same thing happens. I'm pretty sure its the whole iptable_filter error, but I have no idea what to do with that information.

Also, the output of
journalctl -b --full --no-pagerrun with root privileges (unless you've added yourself to the relevant group and don't need them).

I haven't had time to investigate your last post, but do you think this problem is worth continuing to troubleshoot, or would it be easier to re-install? It would not be too difficult to resetup the computer, its a pretty light installation.
