Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello All

I've been working with Linux for years now, I've been primary using distros like SuSE, Ubuntu, etc for that last 5 years or so. My first experiances with linux were with slackware years ago so I'm not stranger to the do it yourself stuff just gotten a little lazy is all with the easy distros. But now I've already got an arch system up and running on a test machine, having such a great time with the control I've got over the distro and love the rolling release I'm going to move my primary desktop from Mint 15 to Arch.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Greetings Archers

I'm Patrick (51 years young) and I run my own Web design and IT repair business in the state of Queensland Australia. I guess I needed a challenge so I installed/configured Arch Linux. I've been using Arch for about 6 months now. I'm really enjoying this distro. Pacman is a great tool. I've found it's very fast at updating too! I'm enjoying the challenges of Arch over the other distros I've used. Just the way Arch is installed has improved my knowledge and understanding of Linux.

A big thank you to the people who maintain the wiki and help in the forums. It's helped immensely overcome a few problems I've encountered (and probably caused myself).

Patrick

Greetings to all you people of technical finesse!

My name is George, I am an amateur programmer and I come from Greece. My background is Ubuntu which by now it seems almost like Windows to me.. Since over one year now, Arch is the only distribution which keeps making sense for me.

Happy hacking to everyone!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello,
I'm Kevin (21years) from Germany. I did finally achieve to get Arch linux running and be very happy.
After 1 week of trying to set arch linux up with dualboot Windows 7, which did not work.
((UEFI wise, and yes I read every topic and post about uefi)efivars are not supported somehow)).

Now it is finally working. I just bought a new laptop without windows 8 and where I can turn off uefi boot smile

so yes thats it for now.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,

Coming from a Debian world (I've been using Ubuntu and Mint for the last 3 years). I hope by coming to the Arch side to be able to improve my knowledge even further.

PS nice anti-bot you have here. I had to look around to understand how it works.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi guys, i was using Debian, so, i stopped, and started to use Arch Linux (after times, over and over of tries to install, of course). But anyway, i'm here, Arch it is just all that i was looking for, and i count with you guys to help me to solve one of my doubts.

I'm a perfeccionist and developer (C++), so, I like to organize my stuff, I like to build my own programs and packages (like C::B, my c/c++ libraries, etc). And i want to know if i could do this and let my distro with the knowledge of my builded and installed package, I mean: To not cause conflict.

And of course: I want to have the knowledge and control about EVERY PACKAGE (not EVERY, obviosuly) that i have in my OS, and for what i will use it.

Anyway, thank's for the Arch developers, i just fell in love with this linux distribution. And thanks!

Olo!

I'm from Cape Town, South Africa and have been in and around Linux for the better part of 10+ years. I was testing Arch for a new Virtual host and decided to stick with it. So far so good! smile

To the devs, keep up the good work! smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone!

I am a software engineering student from Croata with part time job at ISP as maintaince tehnician. After trying all kinds of linux distributions in past two years and disabling my Antergos installation with pacman -Su, decided to try out pure Arch. Like it very much for now and hope to help out and involve as much as I can.

Best regards

Hi Patrick. I'm 51 as well, and also live in Queensland Australia (Brisbane).

I am quite experienced with Linux so Arch is the obvious distro choice for me. I used Ubuntu for the previous 7 years and many other distros over many years before that. I use Linux full time on desktop and laptop.

I think I last used Windows at about Windows 95. Haven't really seen Windows since then!
