@Gioelem3, welcome! When I first started fucking around with UEFI, I too thought that it seemed totally ass backwards. But as I came to understand the basics of how it works, it makes sooooo much more sense, and it far more appropriate for the machines of today. Keep at it, and you'll eventually see why it is advantageous.

(One of the things I really like about it is that I am not limited to a single bootloader. So at the moment, I have syslinux-efi, gummiboot, refind, elilo, grub2-efi and some direct firmware entries which use the kernel's efistub as its own bootloader. Neato!)

Coming from the Windows world, I just recently started to use Linux as a daily driver on my work laptop at my new job.
Needed it for Ruby on Rails, and RVM. Setting these up under windows or cygwin was quite cumbersome, and even then I had problems that I wouldn't have with Linux.
I knew about Linux Mint from earlier, so that was what I went with.

After a few weeks of using it I thought that I'll try Linux on my own laptop too, but for this I wanted a distro that gives a little bit bigger control. So I installed Arch.
It works well more or less, not perfectly. But I guess that's more due to the hardware (seems that having a legacy ati radeon is not the best thing in the world, especially if I want it to use with a fullhd external display).

Aside from that, I like customizing, and tinkering with software, and Arch most certainly is suited for that.

Hello!

Playing with Linux at home for the last 15 years or so, I went through Mandrake, Gentoo, Ubuntu and finally Archlinux that I started using approx. 2 years ago.
I often used this forum, though I never posted in it.
I really enjoy Arch, more especially for its (relative) simplicity and even more for its being allways up to date.

Well... that said I'm far from an expert and with less and less available free time, I become more and more of a newbie.
Oh... one last thing: I'm using KDE.

Hi there!

I have been a Linux enthusiast for about 4 years, but stuck with the "safe" distros (e.g. Ubuntu and Fedora) and I'm tired of not learning. So now, I'm ready for the big-boy's distro and read a bit about different distributions on Linux.org, so that's how I learned about Arch. I'm running it on a VM so I can play without completely screwing myself out of a system, but I love it. I'm taking the plunge tonight and installing it on my laptop! I look forward to being a part of this community and contributing as I learn! There's so much to read here in the forums and in the wiki, so it may be quite some time before I post something, but my "door" is always open to new friends, especially other Linux users. I love to learn and am really impressed with this forum/wiki so far. Some real outstanding documentation that has answered every question that's come up since I first spun up the VM. Great to know there's such an extensive community with so much knowledge to tap into

New here, though running arch for the last 6+ months at home and at work, previously on Fedora, Debian, and Ubuntu. Been lurking the forums for quite some time, decided to register so I can thank you all for amazing support on here. If it wasn't for the forums I would probably already go back to one of the "newbie" friendly distros.

I've been using different linux distributions (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora) for a few years now but never got the time to dig into Arch.
Since I really enjoyed using i3 on top of Ubuntu I finally decided to make the switch to Arch.
I'm totally impressed by my lightweight system, my Thinkpad is incredibly fast and pretty much doubled it's battery life.

Installation (even on UEFI) went fine and I got my system perfectly set up. Thanks to the great resources like the beginners guide or the excellent wiki pages I never stumbled upon unsolvable problems (and there were a few ).
Now I'm looking forward to get a bit involved in the forum here

Hello. I'm Jacob a.k.a. wizard343, im 19 and I come from Poland. I am on the beginning of the road to the world of system administration. Quite new in the Linux comunity (only 2 years ), but all the way with Linux on primary desktop and servers (mostly Debian based systems). I use Arch Linux a few months, and I already know there's no more distro hopping for me

Hello kind people of Arch!

I come from the land of Hackintoshes, Debian and stupid Windows boxes. I primarily use a Hackintosh, my laptops have Debian. Once in a while I use Windows. I've used Arch Linux ARM a year ago when I had a working Pogoplug as my "server", so I'm not unfamiliar with it. The plan is to use Arch on my laptops and dual-boot with Mac OSX on my main machine.

I'm relatively new to linux, Ubuntu was my first experience with a GNU/Linux OS a few years ago and I've tried a couple of other distros after that but I never really put time and effort to figure out how things work.

Only recently have I decided to explore and learn the ways of this wonderfull world. I've only spend a few weeks playing around with my Arch setup and all I can think of is how amazing Linux is.
It's brilliant, it's powerfull, it's flexible it's awesome! It's a digital playground, there is so much knowledge waiting to be obtained and so many different things to do with it.

I think i'm in love with Arch Linux!

Heyo!

I'm another import from Ubuntu.
Finally got sick of updates breaking my machine and leaving me with no idea of how to fix it every couple months.

The only solution was to learn what was going on behind the curtain and Arch is definitely the best way to do that.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here also. I've used Debian based distros for a few years like Ubuntu and Mint. I love Linux and want to get to know the system better and have a more advanced and faster OS so I finally made the jump to Arch. The Arch installer gave me trouble as I've no internet connection that works during install so I installed ArchBang. So technically I'm an ArchBang user but it's still Arch and I removed OpenBox anyway
Hope to make friends here and learn a lot more about how Linux itself works. I've spent half of my time over the past month or so in a terminal and I'm loving it
