Did an update just now and my system would not boot into X. modules load service failed and got an exec format error when trying to load nvidia kernel module. This version just now is the one that caused me the issue:
linux-ck-sandybridge-3.12.2-2
linux-ck-sandybridge-headers-3.12.2-2
As soon as I rolled back the kernel everything went back to normal.
Edit: Tried upgrading and then just reinstalling nvidia-ck-sandybridge but that didn't work.

dodo,
I would suspect the video driver. Which one are you using? My suggestion would be to try to rebuild it for the new kernel.

I use the nvidia-ck-sandybridge from the same repo. I tried just reinstalling it after attempting another upgrade from a tty but that didn't work. Wondering if maybe there was a config change or something. Or perhaps I prematurely updated while the repo was being populated with more stuff I am unsure.

I might need to rebuild the driver against 3.12.2-2 but since the symbols checksum did not change, I didn't yet.

Same Nvidia problem here on ck-k10. Standard kernel and Nvidia boots fine.

just installed linux-ck-atom and the corresponding nvidia-ck-atom. Black screen too - TTY's are working.

Same here with linux-ck-core2 and nvidia-ck-core2. Stock linux/nvidia is fine.

Gotcha. I was going to test it out but I do not see a PKGBUILD anywhere. Are PKGBUILDs for different kernel versions in the repo somwhere? I see the nvidia-ck on the aur but I am unsure of whether to build that and just change pkgname= and add group= I'll just wait for you. Yeah I think it may need a rebuild though. I'm sure you'll sort it out graysky you've always been really good with this sort of stuff. If you need me to test / do anything let me know.

I'm sure Graysky will fix the nvidia packages shortly. He's the best.

i had exactly the same problem, building nvidia-ck from aur, when chrooted, helped

OK, thanks for the reports, all. Broadcom, vbox and nv are rebuilt (nv-304xx was built last night) against 3.12.2-2. The md5sum of the modules NOT predicting the binary breaker kernels is starting to piss me off >:(
EDIT: <HEADSMACK>, looks like Greg pushed 3.12.3, time to rebuild again!

I think it might be some sort of buffer overflow in the driver (googled " too much data wlen"), and probably originates upstream, but I have no idea of where to begin...
Thanks, Adam.

@adam - Can you verify that 3.12.3-1-ARCH gives the same problem? In other words, is the 3.12.3 patch to blame, or is the ck2 patch to blame.

Yep, also happens with 3.12.3-1-ARCH.

OK... when using custom kernels, people often forget to run the control experiment when problems are encountered You'll have to report this upstream since it seems to be introduced from 3.12.2 --> 3.12.3.
If you do a find in the 3.12.3 changelog, you'll see quite of a bit of changes to tuners: https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel … Log-3.12.3

Resolves just fine here. Try using Google's public DNS at 8.8.8.8
Edit, actually I just tried Google's and it failed. I must be the one lagging. Hmm...

I just tried a number of other public DNS servers and all resolved just fine. Looks like a Google problem.
