[solved] wifi problems during installation.

Hi

I'm trying to install Arch onto a Lifebook AH532 GT620M

I've followed the beginners installation guide up to making the Wireless persistent and this is where I've hit a problem.

all of the input commands ( # pacman -S zd1211-firmware , # pacman -S iw wpa_supplicant , # pacman -S dialog ) result in the error message:

warning: database file for 'core' does not exist
warning: database file for 'extra' does not exist
warning: database file for 'community' does not exist
error target not found: zd1211 ( or iw, or dialog)

any suggestions?

regards

malcolm

Re: [solved] wifi problems during installation.

Seems like you don't have the database files for any repo. Make sure that those repos are enabled in /etc/pacman.conf. Also make sure you have at least 1 mirror enabled in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and then do a

pacman -Syy

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Re: [solved] wifi problems during installation.

thanks inxsible,

that seemed to work in so far as it reinstalled each of those 3 components after running the command

so I now have a gummiboot problem. (which may well stem from my misunderstanding of UEFI)

the error message I get on # gummiboot install is

File System /boot is not a fat EFI system Partition (ESP) file system.

Now I have windows 8 and lubuntu currently installed and they were loading prior to start of this Arch install from a Fat 32 drive labelled /boot/efi.

I wasn't however sure (as the instruction wasn't clear in the installation guide) but was I meant to format a new efi boot or just mount the existing..
I mounted the existing as I was assuming that the ESP is basically a list of boot loaders and I didn't want to lose the win8 just yet.

anymore useful suggestions?

regards

malcolm

Please mark this thread as solved and, if required, start a new one, as this is a completely different issue and bears no relation to the current thread title.

Re: [solved] wifi problems during installation.

You can edit your first post and prepend it to the title, like so: [Solved].
