Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock + DisplayLink

So I have Arch running near perfect on my new X1 Carbon Ultrabook. However I also purchased the new USB 3.0 Dock. Most of the features work out of the box, however I still have two problems:

  • The DisplayLink functionality is not recognising the two DVI inputs,

  • and, the audio jack is not forwarding the audio to the connector.

I have followed the wiki article on DisplayLink but have not been able to get the kernel to recognise the new display device.

dmesg (when dock is first plugged in):

You can see the usb hub's and ethernet device are working, but no mention of DisplayLink.

I can correctly build the UDLFB module and modprobe it, but I do not get any response apart from the following dmesg output:

[ 70.754244] usbcore: registered new interface driver udlfb

The wiki states that I should be seeing an extra /dev/fb* device. I currently only have /dev/fb0 which I think is the DisplayPort on the side of the laptop.

xrandr (after modprobe of udlfb):

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 309mm x 174mm
   1600x900 60.0*+
   1024x768 60.0
   800x600 60.3 56.2
   640x480 59.9
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

So bit stuck at this point with DisplayLink support.

With the audio jack I see in alsamixer another card named "Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock", however when switching to that card in alsamixer I get the following error:

cannot load mixer controls: Broken pipe

Can anyone help at all?
Thanks in advance

Re: Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock + DisplayLink

Today I also received my 0A33970 (USB 3.0 Dock) for use with my Carbon X1. I'm looking into resolving the same issues. I'll report back here if I find anything out. Please be sure to post a followup if you figure it out.

Slightly off-topic, have you gotten your "scroll button" for the trackpoint working? The blue dotted middle mouse button.

Re: Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock + DisplayLink

So after some research it looks like the dock uses a DL-3900 chipset, and according to this link, there are no mac or linux drivers for anything DL-2* or DL-3*.

Bummer, looks like my dock is now useless for the dual screen support.

Related discussion: http://www.displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1748

With the conclusions that DisplayLink drivers for the DL-3xxx series won't be available for Linux any time soon.
