Saw the same issue posted by another user who eventually solved his problem by going back to 2013.10.01 release. This didn't work for me...same issue.
Another user suggested his problem was solved by installing a newer version of virtualbox. This is not really an option for me either.
My current system is Debian wheezy - uname output:
Linux knox 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.51-1 i686 GNU/Linux
The virtualbox version: 4.1.18_Debian r38361
So I have tried several versions of Arch iso images and all basically do the same thing. I select "Boot Arch Linux" and after a while I get just a blank screen and no disk activity.
I have never used Arch before, I am an old school slacker/debian guy. I have a project I am working on and am interested in Arch on an Arm platform but would like to be able to familiarize myself with Arch as soon as possible. I need to get up to speed quickly as I will need to build a custom distro for my project. Any help you could provide would be most appreciated.

Did you ask about this issue on some Debian forum? Can you post the link to the thread where using 2013.10.01 release helped?

Saw it here:

My problem is exactly the same except I want to run the 32 bit version.

For any Debian users out there, I found a backport for a newer version of Virtualbox which fixed my problem.
