firefox loading super slow

hi,
i've tried 1.07 and 1.5 with and without j2re installed
Firefox takes about 6-7 minutes to load certain pages.  ebay for instance takes 7 minutes to load. not the homepage but the log in page and eveything after logging in.
in the mailing list someone told me this:

>>
>There was a recent thread in the mailing list about IPv6 being enabled
>in the kernel caused huge delays while starting java apps on IPv4
>networks. You can disable the IPv6 :
>

># echo "net.ipv6.conf.all.autoconf=0" >> /etc/sysctl.conf

I did that and i thought it was a little better, but not really.  People that are connected to the same router with differnt system however don't have this issue. so i guess it's not my connection and it's not ebay.  must be something on my side.
any ideas?

Re: firefox loading super slow

What extensions do you have loaded?

Check you dns lookup speed (dig www.google.com - dig is part of the 'bind' package, IIRC) too

That could be the reason for your problem.

Some ads, specially ads that use flash, can slow down loading a lot.

try installing adblock and noscript extensions, and see if it improves things.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: firefox loading super slow

And, as a last resort, try deleting (or just renaming) your profile dir. IIRC it's ~/.mozilla

I have reinstalled firefox, but that didn't fix the problem ... is there no one who can help me?

<_abe->

You didn't say if you tried Phrak's suggestion of removing your ~/.mozilla directory (of course, you may wish to back it up first).

There have been a number of reports saying that this has solved slow performance in Firefox.

Re: firefox loading super slow

I just had the same problem, and alot of people on the forums do too. It started with the 1.5 update. I disabled ipv6 with the command in the first post, and it still happens. I then disabled it in firefox by typing about:config doing a search for ipv6 and double clicking Disable ipv6 so that it reads true.

Now my problems are solved and everything is perfect.
Another note is enable http pipelining if you have broadband. search for it in about:config and double click it so that it reads true.
