ID for USB connected cdrw

What designator is correct for the cdrw device when connected via USB-IDE device, sc, sg, or sr?

Can it be Udev rules setup in any of the above?

Re: ID for USB connected cdrw

For my DVD/CD-RW USB drive, it's /dev/scd0

Re: ID for USB connected cdrw

Snowman;

Interesting, mine lists the same in media but I get confused when I do the following;
==============================================================
[root@n6re ~]# dmesg | tail
sr 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
sr 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 5
usb-storage: device scan complete
eth0: no IPv6 routers present
drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: timeout initializing reports

input: Silitek IBM USB HUB KEYBOARD as /class/input/input5
input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [Silitek IBM USB HUB KEYBOARD] on usb-0000:00:11.2-2.1
input: Silitek IBM USB HUB KEYBOARD as /class/input/input6
input: USB HID v1.00 Device [Silitek IBM USB HUB KEYBOARD] on usb-0000:00:11.2-2.1
[root@n6re ~]#

===========================================================
This suggests a double entendre!!!!

Whazzup?

Re: ID for USB connected cdrw

That's possible.  The same CD-drive was listed as /dev/sr0 on another laptop.  It was with older kernel and udev versions.  That laptop isn't working anymore so I can't test further.
When you plug-in the USB drive, udev should create a device in /dev.  By comparing the content of /dev before and after plugging the drive, you can find what device represent your drive.
Here's what dmesg give me when I plug it in:

scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 4
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
  Vendor: Slimtype Model: COMBO LSC-24081M Rev: 3M3C
  Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 00
usb-storage: device scan complete
sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 0x/24x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
