Hello, I have a problem with headphones on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro U300), when I plug them in the computer starts to make a weird noise (some kind of buzzing) and the sound gets really irritating when I plug in 3G modem. Any advice?
Thanks!

look into alsamixer and see if the microphone levels are set to be extremely sensitive. Mics do tend to interact with other radio devices like modems, cell phones and such. Try to peg down the sensitivity of the mics a bit and see if it re-occurs.
Also check dmesg and your logs as well just to see if its doing something in the background as well.

Where can I exactly find these settings? I looked in /etc/asound.conf, but that file is almost empty.
I am a newbie to this, I was using Ubuntu and I switched to Arch linux only a few weeks ago, so I have no idea what should I be looking for in the dmesg output.

What are you using to set the volume? You should have some kind of mixer with both capture (microphone) and playback (speakers) settings.

Run: alsamixer -c0
The -c0 selects card zero, usually the right one for people, and bypasses pulseaudio.
Then in alsamixer, press F5 to show all controls.
The static interference you hear can also be caused by the CPU using a power-saving mode. I hear static in my laptop headphones occasionally, have tried loads of things, and been unable to cure it.

I tried to change the settings but there was no effect even when I set everything to zero.

I don't hear it in headphones I hear it from the computer, I suppose it's from speakers (but I can hear it even when I mute the sound).

KMix
I have dualboot with windonws and I have no such problem when running windows.

So, any other idea? I tried to install OSS, but my headphones doesn't work with it, so it's not an option.

I had the same noise and this solved the problem. Just start alsamixer in a shell and select your card with F6, only then you will be able to adjust the microphone level.
