nautilus autostart

Hello guys,

Recently I've got this weird problem.
Every time I login I have this auto started process:

steelrat  4954     1  0 20:40 ?        00:00:04 /usr/bin/nautilus --no-default-window

I've looked into every place that came to my mind about auto start and haven't found anything.

I've looked in:

gnome-session-properties
.xsessionrc
.xprofile
.xinitrc
/etc/systemd/system/*
/etc/xdg/autostart/*
/usr/share/gnome/autostart/*
~/.config/autostart/*
systemctl

What did I miss?

I can confirm this since a few days: If you have opened nautilus (Gnome3) once it never stops. In the activity bar on the left it's always marked as active. If you try to close nautilus via bar -> finish it does not shut down nautilus. Only kill works.
I did a fresh installation on VirtualBox today and nautilus behaviour is the same as on my physical installation.

Try renaming nautilus  to something else (EX: xautilus), and use the new name to interact with nautilus. It's quick and dirty, but it has saved me from caja (the MATE version of nautilus) in the past.

So I'm not alone here? Is it some kind of a bug or a new feature? Aren't there any workarounds?

Try renaming nautilus  to something else (EX: xautilus), and use the new name to interact with nautilus. It's quick and dirty, but it has saved me from caja (the MATE version of nautilus) in the past.

Thanks, it's a good idea.
But I'm starting to think that this is some kind of a bug, since I'm not alone here and wwn got the exact same behavior on a fresh installation.

Thanks! Unsetting the "icons on desktop" in Desktop tab in gnome-tweak-tools helped.
Even though I still can't see a connection here.

I thinks this thread should not be marked as resolved: Lose any functionality is not a solution. It should work with icons on the desk.

You're right, but I don't think this thread will go any further.. We're lucky that we've got any solutions at all

Nautilus manages the desktop. If there are no icons it won't. That's all there's to it AFAIK. If you used desktop icons Nautilus should've always been there already, perhaps you just didn't see it.

You know, the file manager displays the contents of your Desktop folder, removable drives etc. above your wallpaper. That's as much a file manager process as one in a window. So I suppose that's the process you're seeing. Gnome3 is about the only DE I know that doesn't have them by default.

Many bugs have been opened for it. It will be solved in next release :

Downgrading to previous release solve the issue.
