network dropout

My network connection keeps dropping out for no apparent reason on my desktop. the connection will drop and then reconnect after a period of time, (seemingly random), while it is down i am unable to ping any network on internet ip address. when i try i get the host unknown error. it seems to be the only device that is affected, i have tested other devices when the network is gone for my desktop and it seem to work for other devices at that time. this issue occurs while connected using wireless and wired connections.
