[SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

After updating today xf86-video-intel (2.99.907-2 -> 2.99.908-1) I started seeing video corruption when using Thunderbird in KDE.  My system is an IVB motherboard with onboard graphics (00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09))

After downgrading back to .907 it seems fine again.

I added a comment to https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/38495

Is anybody else seeing anything similar? If so is there a workaround that fixes this without having to downgrade xf86-video-intel?

I have/had the same issue (fixed by downgrading).
Saw it in GNOME 3.10, in the synergy app and gnome-tweak-tool (especially the Extensions page).

One more confirmation. I was seeing graphical glitches all over Xfce4 using the Elegant_Brit-3.8 theme. Downgrading to x86-video-intel 2.99.907-2 fixed it for me as well.

Re: [SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

Same issue. I am getting tearing, missing items and black areas in dialogue windows. Nothing untoward shows up in dmesg and no errors in Xorg logs.

Downgrading to previous version (2.99.907-2) fixes problem.

Re: [SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

Dear Archers,

After this mornings update of :
[2014-02-01 11:16] [PACMAN] upgraded xf86-video-intel (2.99.907-2 -> 2.99.908-1)

I have been seeing the following weirdness : http://d.pr/i/9z0E

It does not happen if i switch to my macbooks 6750m so i'm guessing the new intel drivers are bugged?

It doesn't really bother me that much, should i leave it be and wait for the next update or is there something i should do?

Edit:  i should say this happens elsewhere too, but its easiest to get it to show on the contact list there.

That is great and nice to see a quick fix. Hopefully this will get to a package update in arch before long to fix this issue.

I just updated to .909 - unfortunately I still get video corruption with this version, so I have again downgraded back to .907

Re: [SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

@mcloaked - I have an i7-3770k (HD4000) and cannot reproduce your issues in tbird which I used for email/rss.  Using .909-1 here fine.  What do you need to do to trigger the issue?

EDIT: I haven't modified anything in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d except for 10-evdev.conf just to enable ctl+alt+bksp.  I am preloading i915 in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf (in the MODULES array), but that's it.

% pacman -Qs intel
local/intel-dri 10.0.2-1
    Mesa drivers for Intel
local/intel-gpu-tools 1.5-1
Tools for development and testing of the Intel DRM driver
local/intel-ucode 20130906-1

    X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers

EDIT: Are you using sna for sure?

% grep -i sna /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Quick reply - late on Saturday -

Yes I am using SNA.

[mike@home1 ~]$ grep -i sna /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 4.721] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Ivybridge (gen7, gt1) backend

All I need to do is to reply to a mail in Thunderbird - but it does not happen for all mails so it seems to depend on the mail content!  Sometimes merely looking at a mail in the preview pane gives video corruption (such as black lines fully painted in and covering the text).

I have a motherboard Intel DQ77KB with onboard graphics so it is HD2500 with an i3 CPU - not the same as yours, so maybe it depends on which graphics chip you have?

Same here. There are new related commits, so I switched to git for now. 2.99.909.5.g853588 looks fine so far.

Re: [SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

I had the corruption problems when I updated to 908. I downgraded to 907 and it went away. After upgrading to 909 I've seen again minor corruption (more difficult to trugger than with 908). So yes, it seems there are still some bugs floating around in this version. Great that Chris Wilson is so responsive in fixing all these things, so probably within one day we'll have a new version with all fixed.

I started to get the errors with xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1 and tsill have them with xf86-video-intel 2.99.909-1.

Re: [SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

Hi, i have a new ThinkPad E530c (Intel HD 4000) where yesterday I installed Archlinux, KDE was working fine but after trying GnomeShell I saw the same tearing issue reported here, now I downgraded xf86-video-intel to the 907-2 and Gnome works fine, no issues. I've seen that actually with KDE I had some small tearing problem (not the same of that on Gnome Shell), both with UXA and SNA rendering engine and with 907-2, 908, 909 video-intel driver.

Re: [SOLVED] Video tearing after update to xf86-video-intel 2.99.908-1

I downloaded the source via abs, replaced the PKGBUILD with the one mentioned above by graysky and patched/build the package with it. installed the patched package (downgraded from 2.99.909-1 to 2.99.908-2), restartet X, and there are no more graphical bugs since then.
Thanks a lot

@hali- the PKGBUILD I posted will give 2.99.909-1 since it is just .908 patched with the single commit.

Chris Wilson says in the upstream report that we will need further fixes from trunk after 2.99.909 release. Can somebody who still has this bug with 2.99.909 test what needs to be added from trunk to get it finally fixed?
