OK, it works again. My error was that I uncommented en_US-UTF8 on /etc/locale.gen

I did that because dota2 was complaining about it.

By default I have always uncommented en_GB

Steam and dota2 work, but the FPS are dreadful. I have and AMD HD7770 and under w8 everything at max goes perfect. in linux maybe 10FPS

Linux-pf 3.12.1-1 was the cause for me too. With the standard kernel steam loads fine. Thanks whopper for giving a hint!

I got the same error like you while i was trying to start steam with my non-standard linux-pf kernel.
I have rebooted with the original arch kernel and after that steam running fine.

I dont know why.

So my question:
Do you run a customized or non-default kernel?

Perhaps this information is useful for someone with the same problem or someone who can give you more advices.
