Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I didn't get an error message. Other steam programs weren't affected.

The command line shows:

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I've been trying to get the mesa-r300-r600-radeonsi-git package installed to run with my 7850, but I've been running into issue after issue. Lucky, most of that has to do with the llvm buggery that was fixed yesterday. Now I'm experiencing some Make complaints. First off I see complaints that the option 'subdir-objects' is turned off and thus Make can't access any objects in a subdirectory. Those complaints look something like this:

src/mesa/Makefile.sources:208: but option 'subdir-objects' is disabled
src/mesa/Makefile.am:63: 'src/mesa/Makefile.sources' included from here
src/mesa/Makefile.sources:208: warning: source file '$(SRCDIR)state_tracker/st_cb_blit.c' is in a subdirectory,

Then it complains about the setting of LIBTOOL, which should be done using the LT_INIT option in configure.ac.

src/mesa/drivers/dri/Makefile.am:66: error: Libtool library used but 'LIBTOOL' is undefined
src/mesa/drivers/dri/Makefile.am:66: The usual way to define 'LIBTOOL' is to add 'LT_INIT'
src/mesa/drivers/dri/Makefile.am:66: to 'configure.ac' and run 'aclocal' and 'autoconf' again.
src/mesa/drivers/dri/Makefile.am:66: If 'LT_INIT' is in 'configure.ac', make sure
src/mesa/drivers/dri/Makefile.am:66: its definition is in aclocal's search path.
src/mesa/drivers/dri/common/Makefile.am:35: error: Libtool library used but 'LIBTOOL' is undefined
src/mesa/drivers/dri/common/Makefile.am:35: The usual way to define 'LIBTOOL' is to add 'LT_INIT'
src/mesa/drivers/dri/common/Makefile.am:35: to 'configure.ac' and run 'aclocal' and 'autoconf' again.
src/mesa/drivers/dri/common/Makefile.am:35: If 'LT_INIT' is in 'configure.ac', make sure
src/mesa/drivers/dri/common/Makefile.am:35: its definition is in aclocal's search path.

and so on.

I'm installing using Packer, if that makes any difference. Someone mention Yoaurt. Would that make any difference?

Edit: Yaourt doesn't help. Issues the same set of errors.

@ agihr :
you seem to have a dbus related problem, is  lib32-libdbus (multilib repo) installed ?

@ tomsloan :

below you see the start of makepkg output on my system.

the subdirectory stuff is normally taken care of by autoreconf (from autoconf package), and you also seem to be missing libtool.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Seems like at the root of every post I make, there's some newbie error. I totally thought I had base-devel installed, but for some reason I had a few members from that group not installed.

So, now that I've got the complete base-devel installed, I give this another try. It looks like it's working just fine, but then...

llvm/invocation.cpp:35:32: fatal error: llvm/Linker/Linker.h: No such file or directory

Now what am I missing?

With llvm-svn you'll need this fix for mesa http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/m … 55494.html (not yet merged)

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Ok, so I'm making progress with getting radeonsi drivers working with my Radeon 7850. both mesa-r300-r600-radeonsi-git and lib32-mesa-r300-r600-radeonsi-git are installed and X runs pretty nicely. No issues with flash player or anything of the like. However, When working with Steam, two things come to my attention.

1: lib32-ati-dri is not installed, nor is the git version, which supposedly is required for FOSS radeon users. I can't install either of those two options because they depend on regular old lib32-mesa or lib32-mesa-git (which of course conflicts with the radeonsi packages)

2: lib32-libgl isn't installed either and I can't install it for roughly the same reasons.

I'm not sure how critical either of those two programs are, but given that every game in my library crashes on startup, I'm pretty sure I need those. Counter-Strike: Source, for example issues this error:

SDL_GL_LoadLibrary(Null) failed: failed loading LibGL.so.1: /usr/lib32/libxcb-dri3.so.0: undefined symbol: xcb_send_fd

Is it safe to use the --force flag on this one? I'm thinking the dependency issue is mostly administrative (that is to say, it is only so because the allmighty makepkg says so), but I wanted to get some input on that before I try it.

EDIT: Just dawned on my that pacman STILL won't let me do this, even with the --force flag.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

EDIT: Just dawned on my that pacman STILL won't let me do this, even with the --force flag.

that is what is supposed to happen.

my mesa-r* /lib32-mesa-r* packages are built as a single package, not a split package like those in [extra] or [mesa-git] .
(Check the provides lines in the PKGBUILDS, they are huge).
Basically they give you everything you need for r300/r600/radeonsi mesa related support in one package.

Your problems may be due to the fact i haven't gotten around to updating lib32-mesa-r* to reflect the changes in lib32-mesa 10.1.0, working on that now.

Edit :

uploaded new versions of mesa-r* and lib32-mesa-r* to aur, try again please.

Note :
If the Counter-Strike: Source xcb error is still there, the problem is likely because steam uses it's own xcb library by default.
check https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73237

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

The update to your package fixed unity engine games, or at least the one that I tested (Guns of Icarus Online, which ran rather suprisngly well with the standard xf86-video-ati driver. Also runs well with radeonsi, but fire effects cause studder) and I can now run Unigine Valley (getting about 21-22 fps average and this driver handles the rain effects better than catalyst).

I'm still getting the xcb error. I'm going to try running steam with the native runtime and see if that helps.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hello, I really want to run open source drivers however my card despise it. It refuses to run it, and all I get is black screen of death. tongue     I'll wait until they release a new patch, then I'll try again.

So I am currently running close source drivers, and it's fine so far.

It is radeon 2x 7870 Sapphire HD.

Some one posted a solution on luanchpad which I tested and fixes the xcb undefined function issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … omments/34

Here is part of the message:

To be able to play Steam games just delete this:

~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1

Steam first looks for a library in the steam-runtime directory, if the required library is not found, Steam looks for it under /usr/lib/.

guys, a quick question is there any command to list all the available opencl devices with the installed open source radeon driver and opencl enabled packages from the mesa-git repository?

thanks.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Seems like some tiny example code will do the trick:
http://dhruba.name/2012/08/14/opencl-co … ttributes/

Copypaste the code to cldevices.c and run

gcc -o cldevices cldevices.c -lOpenCL

It seems like it could use a check whether deviceCount returns something plausible as it is 15774463 if I don't have access rights to my radeon gpu.

indeed, this did the trick. Thanks ;-)

Another question, how do I access another gpu as a normal user, is that possible, do I need to load an x-server or something?
As a root, without a running x-server through command line opencl programs can access the other gpu. To explain it better, I have two graphics cards installed in my system an hd4550 and an hd5850. The latter one supports opencl in contrast to the former one. What I want to manage is, to use hd4550 to drive my two monitors and my daily services (e.g. browsing, movies, etc) and use hd5850 for opencl testing/running code, programs, etc. The point is that hd5850 is accessible only as root, so here it comes my question.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Can you update libdrm-git and lib32-libdrm-git in your repository?

Mesa doesn't compile with it:

Requested 'libdrm_radeon >= 2.4.53' but version of libdrm_radeon is 2.4.52

Hi!

I have very frequent freezes (at least once per day), I suppose it comes from my radeon drivers, but I don't know how to be sure. Could you help me diagnose my bug? Where should I begin?

From the obvious: tell us which card you have, which versions of kernel, mesa etc. and provide more info about the freezes (at boot? Watching videos on youtube? Playibg games?)...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

A while back I was able to use OpenCL accelerated mining with bfgminer. I have Radeon 7850.
Now any program that uses OpenCL won't work.
Every program gives the error message more or less like this:

Error -1001: clGetPlatformsIDs failed (no OpenCL SDK installed?)
clDevicesNum returned error, no GPUs usable
No devices detected!

Any ideas how to proceed?
