Hello.

I rebooted my machine and have no sound.

I will include the output of various commands to provide info.

lspci | grep Audio

ls -l /dev/snd
total 0
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 1 Mar 15 03:42 seq
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 33 Mar 15 03:42 timer
aplay -l
aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...
amixer
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory
cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd_hda_intel index=0
cat /etc/group | grep audio

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

Try searching the forum for the error you got e.g. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=176852

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

Thanks for replying.
I did search the forums.
As you can see from my code ouput, my problem is rather different. No sound cards are detected etc

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

I don't think you need to be in the audio group.
Is your system up to date? Anything interesting in the logs or systemd's journal?

Reboot and see if  the sound is working when you log in to the tty, not into X.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

Yes, my system is up to date.
I get this on boot:

dmesg | grep hda
[ 5.516268] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: irq 48 for MSI/MSI-X
[ 5.520764] hda-intel 0000:00:1b.0: no codecs found!

and I have no sound even if I don't log into X.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

Nope.

Is it possible that my problem has to do with the recent udev changes?

Try some live cd and make sure your sound card is not damaged.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

Well I tried with a lubuntu live cd and I get the same messages...

dmesg: no codecs found
aplay: no cards found
etc...

Should I come to the conclusion that my card just died?

In my dmesg log I see this:

# dmesg | grep -i 1b
[ 0.000000] initial memory mapped: [mem 0x00000000-0x01bfffff]
      .init : 0xc161b000 - 0xc16ae000 ( 588 kB)

[ 5.613313] hda-intel 0000:00:1b.0: no codecs found!

The "[    0.099282] pci 0000:00:1b.0: System wakeup disabled by ACPI" part troubles me. What is this?
It seems to have to do with the sound card since 00:1b.0 is probably the audio device controller's address.
Any ideas?

Re: [SOLVED] No sound after reboot.

SOLVED

Well with help from a friend I solved my problem. The onboard sound card is not damaged or anything and the whole thing apparently had nothing to do with the alsa configuration.
The problem was indeed this "wakeup disabled by ACPI" thing. There must have been a sudden "PCI address conflict".
I moved my pci wireless card to another slot and sound is back.
Note that I had it going for a long period with no problems and the problem occured after a simple reboot with no update or anything taking place before that.
Strange problem and a strange solution.
Thank you for your replies.
