Kudos to your for your dedication to Pantheon on Arch!
Thx for the kind words
Oh, very well! I didn't remove bamf, I never install it! I use to have bamf-bin (in conflict with bamf). Maybe put bamf in the dependencies
could help?
bamf is already in plank's dependencies, please do your homework correctly. BTW installing *-bin package when there is one built from source is the best way to run into dumb issues like missing libs, you should always prefer non *-bin packages.
PS: a bad bug: gala crashs when I select a window in another workspace in the exposé view (this did not happens in elementary os). Add it to Known Issues?
Seems to work fine here, I can switch between windows across workspaces just fine. Anybody able to reproduce this?
Do you want to take maintenance over the Elementary OS Twitter Client birdie?
This package is deprecated, I've merged it into birdie-git, and that one already has a maintainer.
Now for the regular update, the gee-0.8 switch was finally completed, all packages in the repo are now up to date (thus you will get some more errors from pacman, same fix as before ofc).
I had to update libunity to the latest version from which gee dep has been removed, and somehow against all odds, it compiled on the first try \o/ I was kinda expecting some missing gtk-ubuntu.h BS, what do I know
Also, slingshot now depends on regular gnome-menus instead of the ancient gnome-menus2.
The bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame.

Can someone help me with the gala-bzr problem?
I've tried adding the --disable... to the package build, uninstalling libgee (but then gala-bzr asks for it) and installing gee-0.8 rather than the recent version (but this still errors).
Offline
Trying to run pantheon-shell, and I get only a blank blue screen.
I believe I got the plank dock and the top panel (wingpanel) running when I tried GDM, but still there was no mouse/keyboard.
I'm trying this using sddm and systemctl. I have most of the bzr versions installed form alucryd's repos. Am I missing some of the gsettings entries? Do I need the whole gnome-shell or gnome-desktop installed (I currently don't)?

How do I get the mouse to be visible?
I have the same setup and I had the same problem. It might not be related to pantheon or openbox, but a problem with gnome-settings-daemon 3.10. Disabling the "cursor" plugin worked for me. The bug report shows the command line way, but this can also be done through the dconf-editor gui: >org >gnome >settings-daemon >plugins >cursor active [uncheck]

Is there a version of indicator-application compatible with super-wingpanel-bzr available anywhere?

Replicated some work I did before: two custom Pantheon sessions based on compiz and openbox. A lot has changed since I'm using more updated versions of everything (mostly bzr packages).
New session files based on pantheon-session-bzr:
Pantheon Lite is now available in AUR
/usr/share/xsession/patheon-openbox.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Pantheon Lite
Comment=Replace Gala with Openbox to reduce resource consumption
Exec=/usr/bin/pantheon-session-qq lite
TryExec=openbox
Icon=openbox
Type=Application
/usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/pantheon-openbox.session
[GNOME Session]
Name=Pantheon
RequiredComponents=openbox;gnome-settings-daemon;
FallbackSession=pantheon
DesktopName=Pantheon
Pantheon 3D is now available in AUR
/usr/share/xsession/patheon-compiz.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Pantheon 3D
Comment=Replace Gala with Compiz to add numerous bells and whistles
Exec=/usr/bin/pantheon-session-qq 3d
TryExec=compiz
Icon=compiz
Type=Application
/usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/pantheon-compiz.session
[GNOME Session]
Name=Pantheon
RequiredComponents=compiz;gnome-settings-daemon;
FallbackSession=pantheon
DesktopName=Pantheon
Modified pantheon-session script (don't forget to chmod +x script):
/usr/bin/pantheon-session-qq
#!/bin/sh
export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Pantheon
if [ -n "$1" ]; then
case $1 in
lite) # Reduced resource usage with openbox in place of gala
exec gnome-session --session pantheon-openbox

3d) # Improved functionality and decor with compiz in place of gala
exec gnome-session --session pantheon-compiz

exec gnome-session --session pantheon

Hello,
I've been using a XFCE+Gala+Plank DE for quite a while but since today my Gala won't run.. When I try to run it from Terminal I get this error message:
"gala: error while loading shared libraries: libevdev.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
Also happens when I try to exec cerbere (which is the bzr version, as all of the other Pantheon AUR packages)
Does somebody has an idea of what should I do?
Thanks

theOptmizedCoder: I put gnome-shell in gala-bzr's deps because I couldn't start gala without it, so why isn't it installed on your system?
Pylm: Please give up on indicators, most of them don't work, are 2 years old and nobody wants to make them work again. Wait patiently for a better indicator-free wingpanel. BTW, what do you mean by no icons in menu?
kaslusimoes: There was a libevdev sobump recently, you'll need to rebuild the affected packages or wait for them to be updated in my repo. I already rebuilt gala-bzr on my repo, and I believe cerbere-bzr was automatically rebuilt yesterday so it should also be fine now. It seems some switchboard plugs also need rebuilding, I'll take care of them tomorrow. BTW, I'm not bumping the pkgrel, so you'll need to explicitely ask pacman to reinstall them.
Bottom line: I don't understand why people have mouse problems, I have 2 separate VMs running Pantheon, and one live session on my laptop and never experienced mouse problems.
Oh and here, have a screenie of one of my VMs: https://paste.xinu.at/HBl/

alucryd: I reinstalled some Gnome packages and started using ur repository instead of compiling from AUR and it worked well. Thanks! Also, how're u doing to make it that smooth and beautiful? My PantheonXFCE looks much more like a patch than a DE xD

kaslusimoes: Well, I'd say the main difference is I'm using mutter instead of xfwm and with the elementary themes applied, gtk and icons. Mutter is much more fancy, there is an elementary theme for xfce, but it won't look as good.

Bottom line: I don't understand why people have mouse problems.
Probably differences in what parts of pantheon are installed and/or what alternatives are in use. For me, the mouse dissapearing problem happens only when using openbox with gnome-settings-daemon started by /etc/xdg/openbox/autostart. I'm don't think it's actually a pantheon related problem, but who knows (need to test openbox-session without cerbere, super-winpanel, and plank). The pantheon-lite session posted above does not have this problem (re-enabled "cursor" plugin of gnome-settings-daemon; no problem).
I've had other troubles using componets of pantheon separately from the whole pantheon-session / elementary-os. Mostly minor inconveniences caused by things that should be modular, but are unnecessarily integrated (runtime dependency on unrelated packages' gsettings for no good reason, etc).

Any idea why I don't get any response from the menu options in indicator-pantheon-session? Am I missing some dbus service?

I just installed Pantheon, following the instructions on the wiki. However, when I execute startx, I can only see Plank, and a black background. Is there a fix for this?
Having the exact same problem. Any idea how to resolve this?

queqotidon: The pantheon session indicator does not use systemd so it's pretty much useless atm. You can port it if you wish by looking at how it's done in indicator-session from AUR. I'm always using a terminal for those things so I'm not particularly interested in doing it, besides I'm not a necromancer .
torpet: Fire up dconf-editor and look in org.pantheon.cerbere, gala should be in the watched processes, add it if it's not. Also, try to install gnome-themes-standard and/or gnome-shell, see if it helps (gnome-themes-standard is reportedly needed until you change the wallpaper, not sure about gnome-shell but last time I checked my session would crash if I didn't have it installed).
On another note, I've taken over gala-bzr, pantheon-files-bzr and pantheon-files-plugin-dropbox-bzr so there won't be any inconsistencies anymore.
Also, noise has been ported to GTK 3.10, sadly it was ported to 3.11.x a few commits later and won't build anymore (unless you're sporting gnome-unstable), still there is a functional noise-bzr on my repo with a shiny 3.10 header bar

Thank you for your hard work.
But i have noticed that the package elementary-wallpapers-bzr isn't the official wallpapers but the community made. These are the official ones. https://launchpad.net/elementaryos/0.2- … ers.tar.gz Could you also include the official ones?
Thanks in advance

Thanks! I took a look and it's a bit over my head... the code looks very similar but the differences look like they're using different libraries or library versions (no use of GVariant in pantheon-session-indicator, different syntax etc). That said, I don't fully understand the plan for indicator support in future versions of Pantheon. After all the time and work it's taken to convince 3rd party projects to convert their panel icons into indicators, Canonical has released indicators and indicator libraries based on some new implementation that fragments compatibility all across the board (though some 3rd party indicators may have already converted).... I've read about some kind of plugin system in the works, but not in much detail.
Edit: Digging deeper didn't turn out so well. There are several proposals on the table but it's far-fetched at the moment to think pantheon and indicators share a future. Indicators are being pushed into more Ubuntu-specific territory, possibly becoming dependent on Upstart and eventually getting ported to Qt; Pantheon is based on an extended version of gtk, still has their hands full with a dozen other unimplemented features, and may re-base to Debian for/after Isis...

At the very least, I wouldn't expect them to become dependent on Upstart; Canonical has stated they will follow Debian to adopt systemd so I expect that, over time, Upstart is going to be retired. Of course, that still leaves the whole "ported to qt" problem as far as Pantheon is concerned.
Ultimately, I agree--the indicators are dead as far as non-Ubuntu systems are concerned.

Wow, that's a surprise!! I have no non-four-letter-words to say about Mark Shuttleworth, his plans, or his honesty so I should probably take my mother's advice and not say anything at all, but I am very impressed to see this and other recent evidence that Canonical may be willing to listen to outsiders about design.
Ultimately, I agree--the indicators are dead as far as non-Ubuntu systems are concerned.
Which presents a problem, how to get useful applications into the panel? I really like this interface paradigm and until recently I relied on several indicator applications for daily computer use. In particular I'd like glippy, indicator-sensors, and a network icon back... As long as Canonical is the upstream, indicator development must follow their designs.... Unless (super-)wingpanel will be updated to handle the new indicators, what are we to do?
::update:: there's a "working" version of most indcators available now; I updated super-wingpanel for th new indicators a while ago. Status Notification Items aren't going away!

It seems that 'libpantheon' package has been deprecated for some time now and it was replaced by 'libswitchboard'?

Yup, I'm aware of that, libswitchboard is already shipped with switchboard. There was no reason to split the lib since anything depending on libswitchboard depends on switchboard anyway. However, that reminds me I forgot to delete libpantheon-bzr from AUR. It's gone now, thx for the reminder
