[Solved]X server fails to start, "no screen found" with...

Hi.

After installing intel driver when i tried startx it didn't worked. The log says no screen found. Normally this is a problem defined at nvidia wiki but i am using intel graphic driver.

Also i installed  xf86-video-intel intel-dri lib32-intel-dri libva-intel-driver. And i use Arch 64 bit.

I am not sure if i should try the solution at nvidia wiki.

Re: [Solved]X server fails to start, "no screen found" with...

Mhmm looks likea Nvidia Optimus set up. I would check this but I would advise reading the wiki links to make sure this fits your laptop set up.

Before you do anything pacman -Syu your system, the kernel 3.14.1-1 is out now

NVidia Optimus
Bumblebee

When starting this uninstall any graphical drivers you have currently in place and start from scratch again, having loads of different drivers / packages installed will confuse the issue more for you.

Just to make sure.

First uninstall any graphical drivers then install nvidia-libgl and other nvidia drivers with bumblebee. No intel graphic driver right?

Re: [Solved]X server fails to start, "no screen found" with...

I do not have much experience with Optimus setups I am afraid so I cannot ensure that anything I tell you for this will work or will help. I just know by looking at the hardware setup that it's Optimus.

Just ensure to read the wiki correctly and follow it set by step.

What does this mean? Did you follow the directions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus ?

How to post. A sincere effort to use modest and proper language and grammar is a sign of respect toward the community.

Re: [Solved]X server fails to start, "no screen found" with...

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-9 … art-0.html
I found this link for solution of

(EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory

. It says

I rebuilt my kernel (3.3.0-gentoo) to include both that and CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT and now my issue has gone away.

How can i do that?

is the ~/.xinitrc

When you startx the xinitrc file will run and will execute any DE/WM you have installed (unless you use a Login Manager). In this file you just have xrandr which to be honest, is pretty useless if you have no form to DE/ WM in there to even launch. What DE / WM do you use ? You will need to tell your system which environment you would like loaded. KDE?, Gnome?, MATE?, XFCE?, Openbox?, i3?

Ill just leave here which will help you understand this better.

I found this link for solution of

(EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory

. It says

I rebuilt my kernel (3.3.0-gentoo) to include both that and CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT and now my issue has gone away.

How can i do that?

Whoa don't just try to blindly copy a solution from a different distro, that could make it worse for you and it will be bad practice (until you know what is Arch specific or not). As far as I am aware Gentoo builds everything from source etc which is not the Arch way of things, thus I am not supporting solutions from different distributions.

Okay i get gnome working now. Thanks for the helps guys. Everything works fine.

If anybody else need help about nvidia drivers. The solution is to install bumblebee alongside nvidia. Do not use nvidia's optimus. It will just wont work at least for the current version.

This makes no sense, bumblebee just supports the Nvidia Optimus technology (plus a few extrea features), the Nvidia Optimus wiki page shows you how to do a more manual set up where as bumblebee is more of an application which makes this implication smoother. So if "Nvidia Optimus" did not work for the current version so wouldn't bumblebee.

Glad to see that its all working for you now anyway.
