USB to VGA

I wanted to connect an extra screen to my laptop, but I have no VGA output plug. Google taught me that there is something like a USB to VGA adapter, which can be used to connect an extra monitor. For windows I found several success stories, unfortunately for linux is seems to be more difficult since the drivers are not so readily available. Has anyone managed to get this working on archlinux?

Do you have DVI or HDMI in your laptop? And does the monitor you want to use has DVI or HDMI?

Perhaps one could call this necroing, but I need an answer to the same question. I have 2 monitors and I'd like to use them both with my laptop. When I try to, the laptop's monitor get's turned off. So I think the only way is to use a USB to VGA converter. Can someone give some info on the support of those, so I know if it's worth it?

This is necroing.... Almost a 3 year old thread. The question is the same, don't you have a hdmi or dvi option or are you saying that you need 3 monitors (including the laptop screen) to be available to you? if that's the case, I would think your graphics card would need to be able to support that.

Yes, I do have VGA and HDMI ports, but I do need 3 monitors(including the laptop screen - that is LVDS,VGA and HDMI), in intel's info it's written it does support 3 monitors(# of Displays Supported ‡    3), but I guess it doesn't(tried in Windows as well). The question may be the same, yet I don't see an answer.
Has anyone tried using a USB to VGA/HDMI/DVI/etc adapter and with what success?
