[SOLVED] Truecrypt hangs once after reboot

I've been having this problem for a while now even before the recent TC events unveiled. I've been using the same old 7.1a version all the time.
These problems started after rebooting after a system update at some point, several weeks ago:

Usually right after starting X11 I run a script that calls truecrypt to mount a volume.
However, now this will hang. 'ps' will show a couple of truecrypt processes and a losetup process. I have to CTRL+C the script or killall truecrypt.
After that, truecrypt claims that the volume is mounted even though it isn't. So I have to unmount it first with 'truecrypt -d' and then reissue the mount command that froze at first attempt.
On this second attempt it will always succeed and the volume will be mounted fine.

Any idea what's going on or how to fix this? It's really annoying. I didn't do any weird changes to my system, I only kept upgrading the packages with a 'pacman -Syu' command, then as I described, several weeks ago this started happening after every single reboot.

Re: [SOLVED] Truecrypt hangs once after reboot

Ooh, ooh, I know this problem! I experienced the exact same thing: try to mount, it hangs, I kill it, it claims it's "mounted" but it isn't. I think the GUI (which I don't normally use) consistently worked correctly even after I started seeing this problem. I could easily unmount and mount the volume using the GUI.

Sadly, I don't know why or how to fix it. sad I took this little bug as an opportunity to finally learn how to use tcplay. Thanks to the Arch Linux wiki page it was easy to figure out and use, so I uninstalled truecrypt. hmm

Same here.

I kill it with killall -9 truecrypt, then I can just restart it. I have no issue with having to dismount it first via truecrypt -d.

Still, super annoying. And I don't know what changes have caused this either.

In my case it doesn't actually hang.  If you wait long enough it actually returns an error.  I followed the instructions here and it all works correctly again.

Re: [SOLVED] Truecrypt hangs once after reboot

I've had this problem for a few weeks now, too (I use truecrypt GUI). My truecrypt volume is stored in dropbox, and while truecrypt stays frozen, dropbox keeps syncing the volume (apparently, it is being accessed all the time).

I created the loop device manually with mkloop (as per instructions; thanks, skunktrader!), and it looks like it fixed the problem.

Creating the loop device manually worked, thanks!
