Hi
Just wanna say, I'm an arch noob, an arch user. So it means I'm an archer. The reason why I don't use Ubuntu because Ubuntuer, Buner or Bummer, doesn't make any sense to me.

I started using Arch Linux because I thought the logo looked cool. Whatever works.
Welcome!

Hello Everyone,
Just installed Arch today, have been an Ubuntu user since 2008 and decided to give Arch a chance as I never hear anyone bash Arch which must mean a happy community. Look for to posting and becoming a member of the community.

There is no bashing because there are not many choices made for you. Bashing Arch is bashing your own skills
Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the ride.

Thanks everyone for the welcome,
yes a lot of time with Ubuntu. I don't bash but I got tired of ppa breakage. May seem a little silly to leave Ubuntu over ppa breaking but it will be nice to be up to date with everything. So far everything has been smooth with getting yaourt configured, all my packages and gnome tweaks. The only issue I am having still but I will continue to go through the form and wiki page before I start posting on the subject of some of my steam games not working right. Thanks everyone.

Hello everyone,
Recent Arch girl here, with a background in physics and a general enthusiasm for free software philosophy. I was a Mac user until 2010, when I switched over to Ubuntu (a common gateway -or perhaps I shoud say archway- to our favourite distro, it seems). After a few years, I started wanting to change for a more DIY distro: I didn't like the "premade", out-of-the-box aspect of Ubuntu (although I think it is a very good thing for many users, and there would certainly be less of them if it wasn't like that). Also, I wanted to gain better understanding and control in order to tailor my distro to my wishes. Arch seemed perfect in every way, although I admit feeling intimidated at first. I finally decided to give it a try on an old machine a few months ago, and a few weeks later I was leaving Ubuntu for good.
I have now just installed Arch on my third machine, each time a slightly different experience (BIOS vs. UEFI, single vs. dual boot, etc.), and I'm using it at home and for work. I am very fond of the Arch Way and quite impressed with many things surrounding it, namely its community, documentation, repositories, and package manager. Also, I know it has been said before, but it is very true: I have learned more about Linux in a day with Arch than I have in three years with Ubuntu, and I keep on learning.
I would like to join the chorus and give a really warm thank to the wiki writers for their exceptional job, in particular for the Beginner's guide. I have for the moment never needed to post on the forums for help, which I believe is a testament to the thoroughness and clarity of the documentation.
Well, that's it. See you fellow archers around!

In Brazilian portuguese we say "Sistema Operacional" but, in Portugal portuguese is called "Sistema Operativo" like in spanish.

Hello,
I'd like to start by saying that I am not a programmer nor will I ever pretend to be. I am, however, willing and able to learn as much as possible.
I've tried almost a dozen different distros in the last four months and I'm glad to say that my journey has led me to Arch. I've installed it on my main machine and on a USB stick. I really dig the Arch way.
cheers!

I'm sorry, but sport-related discussion is explicitly prohibited https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … ial_Topics

It's okay, because no one in my country cares. Our television audience will not watch a three hour broadcast unless it has two hours of commercials (and pay $1200+/yr for cable)

I think your friends might get angry if you invited them for a football match TV broadcast and it turned out to be soccer instead.
People in the US watch the SuperBowl and the rest of the world watches people in the US watching SuperBowl. It's like reality TV.

They call it rugby, and we call it soccer. Then when we use our hands we call it football.
I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...
