[SOLVED] Bootloader trouble with old MacBook Pro

I am trying to install Arch on an old MacBook Pro (mid 2007 model 2,1).  I've got it installed, but I'm having trouble setting up the bootloader.  Arch is planned to be the only OS installed, and due to it having a 32bit EFI system, I am trying to boot via BIOS emulation.  I've got a partition (33mb fat32, flagged as bios boot), and I've done

grub-install --target=i368-pc --recheck /dev/sda

, however nothing shows up when I try to boot the system (flashing folder with question mark).  I'm under the impression that there should be a "windows" partition listed in the mac bootloader when holding down the option key (this is how other Linux distros booting via BIOS emulation have worked).

Can anyone help me figure out where I've gone wrong?  If I can provide any additional helpful information, please let me know.  Thanks!

I can't get the install medium to boot on a Macbook Pro 2,2. Can you tell me how you at least got that running? It's been frustrating me for weeks. LOL.

I think it's a different issue that OP is having, so please open a new thread.

I know nothing about Macbooks, but you can check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MacBook

You need to remove the EFI support from the livecd in order to get it to boot.  It's because it's a 64bit machine with a 32bit EFI.  Kernel version 3.15 fixes this, so you can either find out how to remove EFI support from the wiki (search) or wait for a new live image with 3.15

Re: [SOLVED] Bootloader trouble with old MacBook Pro

I solved my issue by using a different bootloader instead of grub

Which bootloader. I can't get the bootloader working either. I tried GRUB and it's no go. I got it working kind of with syslinux, but i had to use the install disk to "boot existing OS" in order to get it to work. Are you running 64 bit or 32?

64bit using the Syslinux bootloader.
