Hello all!
I'm glad to join the community of Arch users. I've used Arch with great pleasure and without major problems for a few months.
Except for this which appeared last week: While doing an update of my system, I get the following error message:
$ sudo pacman -Syu
:: Synchronising package databases...
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
multilib is up to date
error: failed retrieving file 'cinnamon.db' from archlinux.zoelife4u.org : Failed to connect to archlinux.zoelife4u.org port 80: No route to host
error: failed to update cinnamon (download library error)
:: Starting full system upgrade...
there is nothing to do
The following is added to my /etc/pacman.conf, as mentioned on the wiki :
[cinnamon]
SigLevel = PackageOptional
Server = http://archlinux.zoelife4u.org/cinnamon/$arch
...and that had worked flawlessly until the recent error message.
I'm unable to find any similar error on the web. Is there a problem with the Cinnamon repo server, or with my system?
Thanks in advance,

It looks down from here as well.

Not a Pacman issue: contact the maintainer of that repository.
Moving to AUR issues....

Yeah, I'm also getting the same error, and wondering what happened to it - it's been happening for at least the last week or so. I tried going directly to the site and it failed to load so I did a quick check using one of those "Down for everyone?" sites, and it agreed that the site wasn't up. (http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ … life4u.org) It's the entire site, too, not just the arch repo.
Edit: I was wondering if repository issues are AUR or pacman posts - so anything dealing with unofficial repostiories should go to the AUR section?

Yes, the fact that is is a repository doesn't change the fact that it is unofficial; it's just a bunch of AUR stuff hosted somewhere else....
Offline
That's not the only unofficial repo that's down.
Offline
All right, so I guess we'll just have to wait.
Just a question: in the sticky thread "What to do when the AUR is down" , it is said
If you have reason to believe that you may have discovered this outage, check on IRC or the ML to see if it has been mentioned.
I have no idea how to check on the IRC or the ML (what is ML by the way?).
Offline
ML = mailinglist.
But while this is more suitable to the AUR subform, the AUR is not down. In the context of that stickied thread, that is referring to the server that stores AUR source tarballs. The unofficial repo for cinnamon is not in any way associated with that server.
If you are to check a mailing list, you need to check the mailing list for *that* server, not the AUR server.

Even if the unofficial repo is run by a dev or a TU, it's run on their own servers, so you have to contact the maintainers and ask them what's going on.
That's why all the repos listed should proved some info about the maintainer, like e.g. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … s#xyne-any

Unfortunately, as you probably already noticed, the current/last maintainer of the cinnamon repo didn't leave any contact info. I have access to a server that could probably host a repo, and the instructions on the Pacman wiki page seem simple enough that I might give it a shot at putting up a new unofficial cinnamon repository.
I just have a few questions:
Are there any specific server requirements for hosting an unofficial repository? I'd be surprised if I didn't have enough disk space, and I have unlimited bandwidth.
Is there any way I can find out what packages should be in a cinnamon repo? For example, is there a cache file I can find anywhere that lists all the packages that were in the currently-down repo? I tried archive.org and google cache, but neither of them have a copy of it.

Sorry to bump, I did some searching and I think I found him:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=155112 -> https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 8#p1290098 ???
https://github.com/jnbek/cinnabuilder
e-mail him. He may be simply on holidays, since his last github activity is two weeks ago: https://github.com/jnbek?tab=repositories , about the same time the repo (his whole website) went offline. See also his last post in the cinnamon thread I linked to.

@karol Thanks so much for finding all that (I'm quite impressed) - I'll contact him when I get back home, and let everyone know what's going on.

Well it seems to be up now, the pacman error disappeared today. Same for you guys?
@DaimyoKirby: did you contact the guy already? maybe he's back from holiday...
Anyway thanks for the support and talk to you soon !

Yes, it's back for me too.
I added jnbek as the maintainer https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php?ti … did=325642
It seems he's still using Arch: http://www.zoelife4u.org/ (click the 'Favorites' tab).

Yup, I contacted him:
Well, I moved and I couldn't get internet for a bit. The repo should be back online. I haven't been maintaining it, but this email tells me there is interest, so I'll get it up to date again. I updated DNS 12 hrs ago, so it might not yet be propagated fully.
So it's kinda good that this happened, since now he knows he's doing something nice for some other people too
Thanks again for the help karol

hello,
I reopened this post to mention that I contacted the maintainer of the cinnamon repository, Jnbek, because his server was offline again since September. His reply:
I wasn't really aware that there was that much interest in it. I can nd will bring it back online.
I will probably change the cinnamon/nemo/clutter/etc pkgs to their git counterparts as to avoid conflict with the Community packages. This weekend I will need to get the build script working again and get everything updated. I will update at that point. The repo 'should' be available again.
I reverted the changes on the wiki page: the cinnamon repo is back on the "Unofficial user repositories" page
